Steering wheel/whole body "wobble"

I just picked up a 98 4wd limited. Its great and had it checked over with no major issues noted other than gettin the driveshaft replaced due to a heavy vibration and noise at hwy speeds but there is still a steering wheel "wobble" and whole vehicle vibration/shake at anything about 50mph - sometimes it will just stop vibrating. I brought it in to get the wheels balanced/rotated @ two places with no resolution. One place said it was a bent rim but wouldn't tell me which one it was even after paying.

Other than the shaking wheel and whole body vibration it drives great.

Any suggestions?

Congrats on the new addition to your family!

I have the same issue any speed over 60mph, mostly under my feet and seat.. I am boiling it down to tires or driveshaft as well, we'll see when I get new back tires soon.

And did they use the Haweka Flange Plate Adaptor to balance them? Consider them out of balance until they do...

WTF!!!

Take it back and demand they tell you what rim is bent. Can't balance a rim that is bent and if they charged you for a balance on said rim they ripped you off!

If they still refuse to tell you which is bent.. May want to bust out the spare and do some process of elimination!

That just tells me they were unable to balance the rims correctly and used the bent rim as an excuse. I had a bent rim and the shop manager pulled me into the garage to show me what was happening. Thats how you know you really have a bent rim.

Besides the apparent bent rim/alignment issue, you might also want to check out replacing the steering rack guide, here's a good writeup:

Note that it might be stuck on really good. I had to superheat mine and using a crescent wrench and a breaker bar push on it with all my might to get it to even budge. I think someone torqued it down really hard to try and get rid of the steering vibration, which also made my steering SUPER stiff. The newer guide in the 2000-2002's works better anyway.
