Stereo system install pink VSS wire question plz

Hi all,

I'm in the middle of a stereo overhaul. I bought a new 2011 SR5 with the standard 8-speaker setup...and I couldn't stand it another day. I'm replacing it with:

Pioneer AVIC X930BT
Alpine M300 4-channel amp
Alpine M500 mono amp
6 Polk Audio DXI650 speakers in the doors & tailgate
2 Infiniti Kappa 3.5" speakers in the dash
Kicker VR12 12" sub and ported box
Pioneer XM receiver
Pioneer Nav Traffic module

I had it all hooked up to test continuity and inputs / outputs. Amazing unit! Now I'm doing the actual installation. Problem is, I have ONE wire that I can't find a home for; the pink Vehicle Speed Sensor wire from the head unit. Pioneer's awsome install manual states "hook to your vehicle". Doesn't help much.

This is pretty much my first stereo install; it's going smoothly, I'm taking pics along the way, and plan to upload a complete build thread when finished. Meanwhile, does anyone have any idea where to tap into the vehicle speed info? Or can I just disregard the pink wire? ANY info is appreciated, thanks!

Here you go. I think.

You want G9-3. The color code is "SB" so maybe Sea Blue or whatever. Try it out. If it doesn't work it's not my fault because you shouldn't listen to strangers on the internet.

Are you doing the bypass so you have full functions while on the move. Very easy on the Pioneers.

There should be a wire for that on the Pioneer harness.

Move the yellow mute wire and pin on the connector one hole up and ground the parking brake wire and this wire and your there.It was easier for me to get the pin out cutting a slot to get it out with an exacto knife.
Everything works all the Time!
Close to the same on my Z120BT and the Z110BT's as the video...and the X900 Series.You don't think Pioneer made it so user friendly to bypass on purpose do you?

thanks, i've watched that before. the easy ones are the jenson with just the code, but pioneer is way nicer.

alright. I've been gathering data and making notes since we installed my Pioneer unit. I think i have everything done Except, i'm wondering if i should bother with the reverse wire feed. What should i do? The camera feed already appears in the rear view mirror, i COULD find it and get it running into the AVIC z130bt or i could leave it.

Pros- camera feed appears in avic

cons- could possibly botch tapping of wire and ruin the rear view feed

cons - the unit already takes like 30 seconds to boot up, so maybe the feed wouldn't even appear till then anyway

bypass suggested above may not work in certain revisions of 930 and 130.. Mine is wired correctly, and still doesn't work.. we've recently ran into few more headunits with the same issue. all of them are recently released units.

ahhh. Well, the link you posted is for a t4r with NAV, so the ECU's are different as are the actual plugs. Now the ECU pinout that you posted way up above is correct(i think).

I just would need to figure out which ones i'm looking for.

We already know what the VSS is its the:

G9-3. The color code is "SB" so maybe Sea Blue

So now we need the Mute wire? Is that G8-6 ?


More importantly since i dont have factory nav, it looks like the feed runs from the camera itself along the RIGHT side of the truck and then somehow connects to the rearview. Is that correct? Do we have a picture that shows where those wires run to and from, so we can find it and tap into it in the best place?

I swear i saw a photo of our trucks that showed where the wires ran to and from, i think it was in the repair manual, and i've looked a several times since then, but, can't find it again!

EDIT: Okay i looked through the EWD section. That must have been where i looked earlier. I found some cool photos of the entire car, but, i dont see anything relating to a camera. I found one picture. It was in a PDF called "Position of Parts in Body 1 (2010 4Runner)" And the red colored lines look like it comes from the camera, and then there are red colored wires going into what looks like the rear view camera. That could be it, but, it doesn't really help me on figuring out WHERE to tap into the wire or what color it is, etc. Plus, how to do it.

I think the HTML manual has more "stuff" in it than the PDFs anyway. So i'm going to check out the HTML manual now. It looks like when you are viewing the HTML manual you can expand stuff and display things, where the PDF doesnt have that, and i think the PDF version skips pages anyway.
