Stock (original condition)?

Hi

I'm just wondering:
1. how many of you keep you 4Runner in stock condition (original condition)? In other words, how many of you are purists?
2. Do you go off-road?

I keep mine in stock condition because:
1. I don't go off-road that much, maybe 1-2 twice year and the trails I go on are at a "basic" level.
2. I like to keep my cars in stock condition, maybe because I'm getting older. :) When I was younger I did modify by VW Golf GTI. I think those days are behind me now.
3. I like the way it looks as is.

welllll, mine was stock until i discovered this forum.... hahahaha.

i dont offroad all that often(2wd), and when i do its taking dirt paths to the middle of no where to shoot some weaponry. :gun6: :uzi:

the whole reason i "mod" is because it gives my runner the "me" aspect.
it lets me show who i am, and lets my personality unleash.

i dont do it to stand out or turn heads, its just individualism. :artist2::guitar3::thumb3:
anddd i love it.

My 4R was stock for maybe 1 day.

My vehicles (13 of them) have never been stock and never will be stock. It's not an age thing, its a passion thing. If it is what you want to do, you will make the time and money to get it done. Vehicles are my hobby and my career at it will not be changing. There is always something on a vehicle that can be done to make it your own and allow you to gain small bits of feeling like you have something to do with what shows who you are.

People "grow out of it" only because they find something new that takes its place. Something new to spend their money on, willing or not.

One of my favorite quotes I got from a friend years ago:

"We have become part of something much more complicated than you will ever fully comprehend. We build more than just cars...We build friendships, we build futures, we build our dreams. We drive our cars fast and hold our heads high because we have a unwritten and unspoken agreement that we will live life to the fullest and never fall victim to "The Norm". Others laugh at us when we spend hours on end working on our cars, yet shake our hands when we are done."
 
I like her just the way she is.

I did pull the Carbon Filter off and changed to synthitic lube in all three diffs.

Great vehicle.

13 vehicles? geez! what all you got?
 
I'm into the sleeper look, but I don't mind putting doing some small things like painting chrome color key or painting rims. That would be all that I would do to my truck but right now its almost done changing from SR5 to sport. All I need is a hood (I can do without) painted grill and roof rack.

I also have a '04 2wd v6, I put on a black bull bar, 265/70-17's, leveling kit, FJ springs, and a trailer hitch and airlift 1000's to tow my 1990 325is to the racetrack. Just enough to distinguish it from the others. I do want a rear limited-slip unit so I can have a bit more fun... :D

1. Define stock. I didn't keep the suspension stock or the tire size. To me the results are worth the price. There are also other things I have done to the 4runner as well (see sig.) but nothing crazy ............yet.
2. Yes I do off-road. Not nearly as much as I want too. And, sadly, most times I go off road I'm going to get firewood, pull somebody out, or I know I'm going to get dirty. In all of those cases I take my silverado. Its older, rougher, paid for, wired for my winch, and can carry a load in the bed.

I do keep my vehicles more stock now then I ever have. Especially the engines (been there, done that). That being said I feel like there is always room for improvement. That is one of the reasons that I chose a 4runner. Because of aftermarket support. Your not just stuck with how the factory did things. This is only my opinion. 4runners are perfectly fine with most people right off the lot.
 
Bone stock. I bought the 4Runner because I didn't want to get out in cold to install snow chains and put my butt into traffic when chain controls are in effect.
 
Q ship

I like doing improvements without it being "too loud". So far, I've done the rear LED light mod, OEM NAVI, put new tires and now looking to do retrofit HIDs. All this without being obvious.

Next up:
Rear bumper LED light
Footwell "ambient" LED
 
As of now, still Bone Stock. Thinking about doing the rear red LED brake light mod next spring/summer.

The only time my 4Runner has been off road was when I pulled a couple of Ford F250 Super Duty pickups out of a field when they got stuck in the mud.
 
I envy those that mod their trucks, most times they look great. I can always pick pieces of each that I'd like to do to mine some day.

1. That being said mine almost always stay stock. My reason is kind of a combination of lack of cash, the thought of messing around with a vehicle that was engineered to be a specific way and then changing it and lastly lowering resale value (one very big reason I buy Toyota's to begin with).

The only things I end up doing is changing out the factory head unit, adding a sub (which I usually take back out for resale), and one "mod" I'd like to do to my T4R is adding a factory spoiler to my spoiler-less runner.

2. Mine's too shiny to go real 4x4'ing yet, one day when it retires from family duty I'll do some more wheeling with it but for now that'll be left up to my Tacoma to do.
 
Stock, but not by choice. I have a wedding to pay for. Thats where my moneys going now. After that that its a lift and M/Ts for me.

I do offroad as much as i can tho. About every other weekend..

1. stock
2.yes I off-road, but with different vehicle.

1.I off road rougher trails than my 4Runner will handle
2.I have another modified vehicle for off road use.
3.I like the way it looks.

The 4Runner is more of a family needs daily driver and I pull a smaller camper. The 4wd is nice for me. I live in a rural area and it comes in handy for winter driving and also for less than perfect roads when camping, fishing, or hunting. The IFS and all the sheet metal and glass make it a less than ideal off-road platform for me.
