Stock size BFG AT KO

Im thinking about getting some BF Goodrich AT KO tires. Stock size (265/70/17). Do you have these tires in this size? If so, how much was MPG impacted?

C vs E

Remember, there are two models of this size: C & E
C: 47 lbs.
E: 55 lbs.

for reference
Stock dunflops: 39 lbs ea
P-rated Rugged Terrain: 40lb ea
E mud terrain: 53lbs

Given that unsprung rotating mass has the largest penalty, you should really consider which one is appropriate for your use. You are looking at either 20% or 40% increase in rotational weight of the tire....

They come with P rated tires- C load range is fine. Many many members on here are running them already.

The stock tires are P-rated (Passenger tires), that's why they suck so bad!

PS- I don't think you're crazy.
 
I cashed in my stock Bridgestone Dueler H/T D684's at 600 miles for the same size (265/70-17's) BFG A/T KO's Load Range C's. Still have (only) 1550 miles total on the vehicle, but have seen no significant change in mpg's, and (thankfully) only a slight increase in road noise. Sadly, only got $50 for each old tire, even after doing the trade-in Kabuki Dance with 3 or 4 different tire shops.

Per Tirerack.com:

Bridgestone stock tires:
39 lbs tire weight
31.7 " diameter
2535 lb capacity

BFG A/T KO Load Range C:
47 lbs tire weight
31.8 " diameter
2470 lb capacity

BFG A/T KO Load Range E:
55 lbs tire weight
31.8" diameter
3195 lb capacity

Good news is the virtually identical diameter compared to stock.

Bad news is the lower capacity with Load Range C, and the fact that Toyota makes us go through this waste of time and money by putting highway tires on the Trail Edition.
 
Oh yeah - forgot to mention that if part of your motivation is to have tires that look a bit more aggressive than the stockers - apart from the obvious practical benefits - the BFG A/T KO's are a lot beefier looking than the stock weenie looking Bridgestones - same tire size, but a lot wider and luggier. At first I thought they had mistakenly mounted 285's.

Here's a pic that might give you an idea - new tires and new hiking boots for the wife all on the same day. Pretty exciting stuff:

I just put a set on my sr5, same size load range c and am seeing about a one mpg loss. Not bad I think and I do like the ride and the way they look.

Bad news is the lower capacity with Load Range C
When a P metric tire is used on a truck or SUV, it's rated load capacity is reduced by 9%, so that 2535 is really 2307.
 
FWIW I have P metric 265/70/17 bridgestone dueler revo 2 tires (41 lbs each per tireack.com) and my MPG data is as follows:

Lowest MPG (towing): 16.17
Highest MPG (road trip cruise set @ 70mph):23.27
Average MPG : 19.52

I have had the Revos installed from day 1 and these numbers are from 0-5000 miles.

With the BFG tires being 6 more lbs each per tire I would expect your MPG #'s to be slightly lower. However the biggest variable in MPG is YOUR driving style and the conditions.

BFG ATKO's are awesome tires, I ran them on my 93 Toyota Pickup and my 2008 Tacoma. Unless you off road every weekend I would recomend the Revo's simply due to better wet traction and albeit slight improved on road handling and a bit better on the noise. I have owned 3 sets of BFG ATKO's and I am on my 4th set of Revo's. The Revos get the edge for on road performace and the BFG ATKO rules the offroad realm in my opinion.
 
However there is an idiosyncrasy governing the use of Euro-metric and P-metric sized tires on vans, pickup trucks and SUVs because these vehicles have a higher center of gravity and greater probability of being overloaded than passenger cars. In order to accommodate this, vehicle engineers are required to specify Euro- or P-metric sized tires rated to carry 10% more weight than would be required if they were used on a passenger car. This is the equivalent of taking the tire's load capacity branded on its sidewall and multiplying it by 91%. For example, a Euro- or P-metric tire designated to carry 2,000 pounds on a car is restricted to carrying 1,820 pounds when used on a van, pickup truck or SUV. This size selection practice provides the vehicle manufacturer with the appropriate tire load capacity.

Why is that and where did you get that info? Not disputing, just never heard of that.

P-Metric Tires on Light Trucks Have Reduced Load Rating:
When a P-metric tire is installed as OE on light trucks, the load rating is reduced by a factor of 1.10 by the vehicle manufacturer. This load reduction is mandated by Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards (571.120). The reasons for this include the expectation that P-metric tires which are designed mainly for passenger cars, may experience more severe service on light trucks.

It is federal mandated regulation...It's part of the reason I am so against P metric tires on trucks and SUV's. If you ever intend on towing something I always suggest getting an LT tire for peace of mind, I have seen on more than one occasion pick up trucks suffer catastrophic tire failure when running P metric tires.
 
I didn't feel comfortable towing my boat/trailer with the OEM P tires. I went with a Load range C (6 ply) and I am now very confident trailering to the lakes.

Yeah, tires are prone to failure when over loaded in mis-applications. But it goes both directions.

Do you really think SUV manufactures are happily exposing themselves to what would be massive liability if things existed as you portray them? I can't help but notice the conspicuous lack of any recommendation in the owners manual to use an LT tire for towing.
