Not sure if you guys can really see it in the pic but the rim seems way too wide for this particular tire. The size in pic isn't relevant, only trying to show what I want to avoid. I am not looking at purchasing the pictured rim or tire.

Please post a pic and your comments if you have this titled combo.

Thanks in advance!

I had a quick look at ur build page and that definitely has more bulge midway in the sidewall (which is what I want) rather than at the rim. Know the offset of ur rims?

Now that you mention it I now notice it haha never really bothered me before
But the rim specs are an offset of -6 and a backspacing of 4.75

It's your money, it's your car - do what you want. Obviously you're more concerned with appearance, so do what pleases your eye. If you're really worried about stretching the tire too much on a wider wheel, then get a narrower wheel. Pretty simple.

FWIW, I looked up the Duratracs in stock size. LT versions are recommended for 7"-8.5" widths. The non-LT version is recommended for 7"-9" widths (which would cover your 17x9 wheel). If it were my money, I'd be sticking to the tire manufacturer's recommendations and call it a day.

Yes sir, the tires I am going with are rated for up to 9". So, what I am concerned with is wether that will give the look I want to avoid. The rims we want (2 choices now) are only available in 9" width. I am trying to use this forum as a resource to see pics of that combo since there is usually no way to confirm a rim size on a vehicle spotted on the road or in a parking lot. Don't want to make this purchase and then say "oh, that is what I was afraid of".

No, but what you CAN do is research instead of just asking. Your wheel you want is 9" correct? Go to my chart or go to the tire website and look for section width and tread width. Tread width is not normally shown but section width is. That's the width of the sidewall bulges. If your chosen tire has a 11" section width then you will have a 1" bulge on either side ((11-9)/2) so your tire won't have a "flat" sidewall going up to the tread.

Your chart is where I started. Well, more so in researching offset. Please see my thread on "stock 2014 trail offset", (not sure how to give you a link here) and check my math.

I understand. Now go back and check your tire's width. That will be section width which will be the tire's widest point. Subtract the rim width divide by 2 and that will give you the "bulge" in the sidewall.

Your research doesn't have to be Toyota specific. Google images of the tires you want and nine inch rims. You'll find a ton of results. Also, you'll want a more narrow rim or wider tire, 265 on a nine inch rim is going to give you the look you don't want.

Did that too with little success although I was searching specifically the rim. Good suggestion, I will search the tire instead.

The +12 offset is not going to be a good choice for you. Look for a BS close to 4.5" or run a spacer.

BFG rugged terrain P265/70R17
10.7 section width
8.4 tread width
31.7 overall diam

Ultra Baron 17x9
+12mm offset
5.39 backspace
*tirerack.com recommends 265/70/17 with this rim for the 2014 4runner

Sorry. It's going to look exactly the way you don't want it to.
Two choices:
1. Go with narrower rims
2. Go with wider tire tread and section width.

The 8.4" tread width is narrower than the 9" rim so you are in the hole to start. Only a 10.7 section width gives you a .85" sidewall bulge but that has to take you to a 8.4" tread so the sidewall wouldn't stick out much, if any further than the wheel before tapering to the tread.
