This is a timely post. I just got the November issue of Consumer Reports and they rate SUV/Pickup tires in the following categories: All-Season, All Terrain and specifically Winter, so you might want to pick up a copy for yourself and do some comparisons. Of course I imagine there are plenty of members here with opinions as well. I for one will find out how good my stock Bridgestones do this first winter in NY as I simply don't feel like spending the money right now on new tires.

They had Cooper discoverer at3 as the number 1 AT tire, I wonder how they are.... Haven't heard any 5th owners with them ????

I've had no problem with the stock Bridgestones in the Winter here...yet.
I did fail badly (and surprisingly) in some mud/snow last year so I can imagine there are some scenarios where I'd be kicking myself for not pulling the trigger on winter tires. (sorry, a little too much beer tonight to make sense)

If someone gets a line on cheap steelies please post.

Wife won't let me get another set of wheels and aggressive tires for the MINI so I can get back into auto-x. I have 5 bicycles in the garage that fulfill my need to [ricky bobby]go fast![/rb]

The problem with my garage is that it is narrow. The MINI and 4Runner fit but if I were to do a 2 post or 4 post lift, I'd be pretty unhappy trying to pull in every day with such a narrow spot. If it were just 5' wider, I'd definitely have worked a lift in there.

Last winter i did not had any problems with bridgestone dueler(stock), when i went to mountains for new year. I was doing 60mph during snow storm and all kinds of stuff, car was stable, never got stuck.

no problems with the duelers here.

drove them through snow and on a 1000km round trip through slush, ice and snow. snow was sometimes about 6 inches deep with a max of 12.


i'd say the key is careful driving. no matter how good a driver you are.

i plan to drive on the duelers till they are worn down. couldnt really justify myself getting a new set off the bat. that being said i do carry a very nice set of thule chains in the back just in case


good luck with your duelers. if i had a family though i'd give myself some piece of mind and get a set of nokians on steelies or something. YMMV
