Stone guard protector, on or off?

For those of you that have off road lights, wen do you take your stone guard protector off? Do you leave them on or off all the time? When the protector is on, it actually blocks some of the light from the lamp...:biggrin2:

Some lights (Hella ff1000, for example) have clear acrylic protectors available. Not the stick-on vinyl stuff, but an actual snap-on rigid lens cover that is offest away from the original lens by about 1/4 inch so the heat will dissipate. I have these and like them a lot.

I've got Hella 500s and it did come with a cover, but I don't normally drive with them covered. I do pop the cover on when I have to get the truck safety inspected.
