Strange Things Going On with Electrical System

My 2015 TP has just under 4K miles and while there is nothing serious going on, the past week I had the following happen.

Half of the radio screen disappears and had to turn the system on and off twice to get the full screen back...this happened twice.

The second was today, the rear wipers kept going after the typical three swipes and then one side, pause, then to the other side. I was washing the rear window and even after releasing the wash button, still kept wiping, no pause. Did this for about a minute, I turned them off and then back on-back to normal.

Then today, the DRLs stayed off until I released the parking brake, this may be standard, but I never noticed before....

Should I be concerned...also where is the ECU/CPU located? Looks like all systems are controlled by this unit. In my work world this is the PLC, programmable logic controller.

I wouldn't even **** with it if it's that new. Take it in for a warranty fix.

The radio might be an internal problem with the headunit itself. I can't see how another 12 volt signal from elsewhere in the truck would cause that sort of malfunction.

The DRLs always act that way.

As for the wipers, which washing position were you using? There is a wash setting at both rotational extremes of the rear wiper switch. If you were using the upper washing position it snaps back into the wiper continuously on position which could explain what happened. If you were using the lower washing position it snaps back to the off position so that would be an issue if the wiper stayed on after.

Hi 77,

...well the 'Main body compu network ECU' is 'integrated' with the driver-side fuse/junction-box; they're both hinged and snapped together. As far as the electrical issues, before I would try to approach the behavior of these accessories, I would just disconnect the battery and let it stay disconnected for a minimum of 4 hrs to be sure that the capacitors/memory storage has had sufficient time to reset.

Once you've done that, check it and see what happens. There's really not enough information to begin trouble-shooting the rear wiper, DRL's and navigation malfunctioning at this stage. I have a feeling that disconnecting/reconnecting the battery is the most sensible place to start; the vehicle's operational behavior will likely go back to the way it was when you first bought it! Please be sure let us know how you make out,

I would try the above suggestions before dealing with warranty stuff, but do not be afraid to bring it in. If you do go in, make sure you take videos of what is happening and take them with you. Nothing is worse than trying to explain what is going on and having the service people look at you like your some kind of moron. Pull out video, show them and let them do their job.

Agree too...will try this weekend. I did mimic the wipers today, I was holding the wash a long time, longer than normal, the wiper swiped back and forth a lot before switching to intermittent mode...

I also agree with the others. If the battery reset doesn't work, don't be afraid to take it in to get it checked out, especially if under warranty. Better to let them deal with it than have them try to blame you for something. Good luck!

I need to look at my controls better...it has taken me longer to get to know this truck, more so than normal. My everyday driver, my T100 is very basic and I have been driving Fords so long, they became second nature.

Will be disconnecting the battery this weekend.

It took me a while to figure out also. Once I understood what was happening (just as you described ), it made perfect sense - The first 3 wipes are for clearing the glass of anything that may have already accumulated before you activated the intermittent mode. While set to the intermittent mode, the blade does not fully re-seat, as you described - I can't say I know why it does this, but I think it may be a way of "visually indicating" that the rear wiper is in the intermittent mode. Which may remind you to turn it off before shutting down the vehicle to prevent any potential for damage if the wiper activates upon restart and drags the wiper across any ice or other debris that settled on the rear glass while the 4R was parked.

I think another reason the wipers don't park during INT mode is so that the rear window sensor that doesn't allow the window to be rolled down when the wipers are operating doesn't ever see the park position and makes sure you don't accidentally open the rear window with the wipers in the INT setting.

Having the window open with the wipers running would make things quite interesting!

Yeah - I thought about the same thing you said with the first 3 swipes. I guess it just took my brain a minute to figure it out because I'm so used to intermittent being something like: swipe --> pause --> swipe - rinse, repeat.
