Now that the temps aren't in the 110s anymore, I decided to work on some things that I just couldn't bring myself to do when it's that hot — like screw around with pulling the dash apart and re-wiring crap. Nothing so fun as being stuck under the dash while sweating like a blind lesbian at the fish market.

On a whim, I decided to swap my steering wheel for a steering wheel out of a 2000 SR5. Not thrilled with the rubber of the new wheel instead of the leather that I so painstakingly re-sewed my 97 steering wheel in — but my screwy left shoulder makes the later style easier on long drives and this rubber wheel presented itself to me — so I bought it. Guess I'll turn around sell my leather steering wheel and airbag now.

But first I need to screw with the clock spring connector for the new wheel tomorrow. That way I'll have a working airbag again. I forgot that the later model steering wheels have air bags that use a different connector than my 97 does.

Since I was already messing with the steering wheel, I decided to re-wire my GPS too since the powercord started going on the fritz from the first time I wired it up. Once that was done, I figured I would finally start the center console swap I've been putting off for the last year or so. For today I was content to just pull all the console switches and re-route them over to the left side of the steering wheel.

Now I just need to clean them a bit and orient them right-side up. All in all a semi-productive day with the truck.

As usual I have been lagging on a few upgrades for the truck. I've been sitting on this 99+ console for like a year or two while waiting for the right time to mess with it. Finally got around to doing it today, but need to finish up a few things like swapping out the e-brake handle cause I was under the influence when I cut the handle and...well...it's a little short. Oh well, I have the proper handle sitting on a shelf so no biggie.

I now have 8 working cup holders in my truck.

Took a few days but I eventually did get around to rewiring my new air bag up to my old clock spring. I'm not an electrician so who knows how bad of a job I did. I'll take my chances...

Air bag light doesn't come on so it must be ok with the computer...I guess.

I must confess that I stood well away from the airbag deployment zone as I first re-powered the air bag. Really didn't want to be the guy who goes out like that...

Where did you get the leather for the steering wheel? It looks pretty nice. I hate the rubber feel on my 97.

I bought it from a guy on eBay for about $60 and it took about a month to get it. Send me a PM if you want his info and I'll dig it up.

My wheel is now for sale btw, $125 plus shipping. Air bag not included.

There are a few non-factory, stitch-on leather wraps on Amazon that will fit over the rubber wheel. I installed one on a $35 replacement leather-wrapped steering wheel I got off ebay (my orig was rotted including the foam under the leather) - it ain't stock but I got used to the feeling of it and it doesn't look half bad, but again, not stock looking.

Well, he doesn't really have a way to hold a pen since he lost both arms in a bar fight back in 83 when a Chameleon with a quick temper and a switch blade made a play on his girl. Jimi almost didn't make it, spent three days at the vet in ICU but eventually pulled through cause he's a fighter. One less Chameleon in the world now though...

It just occurred to me while enjoying a smoke – that aliens, should they exist, must surely view we earthlings in a similar vein as we earthlings view hornets around a hornet's nest. All angry and busily buzzing to-and-fro; quick to attack – sting first, ask questions later sort of thing.

I should wonder if aliens are stealing our honey as well?

Oh and one more thought. I think a 4runner would make a kick-ass beekeeper-mobile ... just because.

Since I'm lazy I haven't really done much lately. I did paint my corners amber though (stole the idea from GGFerrier). I wasn't sure how it would look on a white truck, but I think I like it.

Now I'm still debating whether to put LEDs or HIDs in the 99+ clear headlights that I've been sitting on for nearly a year.

I used to run a magnetic charger for my iPhone, but since I switched over to an Android phone, I've had to dump the whole setup for how my phone sits, since I like to keep it up out of the way.

So I picked up this simple magnetic ball-joint swivel mount and stuck it right on the dash in that little "taint" spot. My new phone is pretty good size with a 6 inch screen, but it hasn't fallen or moved in the week or two I've been using it.

Simple, cheap and effective.

Can I ask you what brand of paint you used for your corner lights? I want to do this but have been reading bad reviews about Krylon Stained Glass Amber and wondering if there is a better paint to use. Thanks!
