Stubby antenna snapped off ! F-me

So don't when it happened , because I'm so used to no antenna on the 4th didn't notice till I got to work . Snapped right at thread line , thought I could back it out but just pushed what was left further down . Guess only option is to buy new base ? Looked & it's like 35$ online , any other ideas ? Found the shaft in the gutter at home GD it :bash::ybrick:

Well you can try the last ditch effort of getting a really small Easy-Out and seeing if that works? Its what we try at the dealership when that happens, though usually only after we've pretty much sold a new base and antennae as its really one of those "well you needed it anyways" deals if it doesn't work.

Yup... this happened to me this very week. I would've used a easy out but all of them were too fat to fit into the antenna socket... so I used a 5/64 drill bit to bore into the snapped off piece still in the antenna socket and then used a 5/64 reverse screw extractor to bring it out

Hi oljeti,

IIRC, those threaded studs are 'very soft' metal ("That's why it broke off")... if so, another way might be to soak it w/penetrating oil. Then drill a small hole in the top of the stud. Push a small, 'hardened' "torx head tip" driver into the hole; tapping it down gently w/a light box wrench or metal mallet; "I doubt that it's very tight"... then (hopefully) unscrew it.

I really thought I could drill small hole & easy out . Will go for it in the LIGHT of day . Keep fingers crossed for me ! Thanks for the help men & Happy Holidays

Seems strange that you would not know when it happened. Have you been through any car washes or thick vegetation? Mine has withstood many a harsh beating and it is just fine. Leads me to believe that it may have been vandalism. Any event that made my stubby snap while I was in the vehicle would be something to remember lol. Sorry I'm no use on your original question, but unless you got your Runner up to supersonic speeds, I see no way that it would break off without some type of outside influence. The old man in me just wants to yell "damn hooligans!"

Suspect vandalism & you know early morning just trying to make to work on time ,not paying attention ! Nothing like this has happened in my neighborhood n awhile ! 86 taco parked on St when spraying acid was popular . Glad that's the least of my worries . Gday

No joy !!

Could not get it out ! Looked at going thru the liner looked even harder so re-threaded it & put the stubby in . Didn't lose any fm/am w/o so it just was weird without antenna there . :first: :gossip: Fcn-moron IDK beats a hole . Gonna look for something different .
