Stud is all the way towards "u-shape slot". The tension bolt is resting in the pictures. When I "force" the bolt down, the alternator does not move easily, nor does the pulley. The bracket is flush with alternator mount and belt is not taught, but no where near anything I would "just tighten" and call it good. Too much slop in belt.
That's was why I cannot just fit it down.
The main bolt that holds the alt to the 'block' is fixed, no way to wiggle "to and fro". Side to side is possible but that just loosens and tightens slack on belt.What if you try to loosen the alt mounting bolts and wiggle the alt around until you would get the stud to fit
i would pull my alt all the way up and tighten the bolts accordingly while still holding the alt in place
That is what I thought, but the bracket is up against the bottom mount for the stud/tensioner. The bracket may be 2mm off but the tension bolt is 5-7mm off.Bracket looks bent. How did you break 2 bolts that are just meant to put tension on a belt?
Make sure those threads are nice and clean with some PB blaster or WD-40. I've never heard of a tensioner bolt breaking.

Yes, its new and correct alt.Is that a new alternator,looks pretty clean in the pics. Probably a long shot but it may be the wrong alternator.
Thanks. That is the issue. Thought I had it worked-over enough.I agree with Jon. It looks like the bracket is bent, and needs to be straightened.
Given you probably don't have high heat (oxy/ace), if you take off the bracket, and put it in a vice, you may be able to beat it in order to straighten it.
