Stupid Headlight Question

Ok, I'm revisiting this issue because I need clarification. 2001 SR5 - I guess I have Daytime Running Lights but should they be exactly as bright as when the lights are 'on'? Twisting the switch from 'off' to 'on' does nothing but turn on the side markers. Is this correct? Headlights seem dim and I can't tell they're 'on' unless I'm alone on a highway (at which time I feel like I am driving a 1970 VW).

Yeah. The only difference between "Off/Daytime" and "On" are the side markers and rear lights.

EDIT: ... And mildly brighter lighting when the switch is set to "On".

When off, only your headlights are on.
When on, your headlights, side markers, and rear red corner lights are on.

You could try Sylvania Silverstar bulbs. Don't get the Sylvania Silverstar Ultra's because they have a very short lifespan, just get the regular silverstars. Those things can put out some light.

And if your headlight lense is dingy/dirty, I would recommend toothbrush/toothpaste to clean it.

Your light output should get better with that.
Lighting is a safety concern, so keep that in mind.

I have a 2001 SR5 and mine get brighter when I flick the switch.

I'm using the Silverstars with new headlight housings and supposedly some really bright H3's in the fogs. Every time it rains I think about doing the HID retrofit.. :mmph:

The DRL system activates the headlights at a reduced wattage for a slightly less intense illumination. At least for the 01 and 02 Runners.

Assuming that's true and that what I am saying about my headlights being exactly the same is also true how do I see if the proper amount of wattage is being output? How do I test it, in other words?
