Styling of Current SUVs and Trucks

I find myself paying pretty close attention to the styling of the current SUVs and Trucks on the market. I see some that look pretty darn good, but others look horrible! Here is a small list I've come up with over the past few days


1 (great looking)

Toyota 4Runner ('nuff said)
Toyota Tacoma (nice front end styling)
Nissan Titan (nice front end styling)
Dodge Ram (especially with the hood scoop)

2 (Decent looking)

Jeep Grand Cherokee
Ford F-150
Chevy Silverado
Chevy Colorado


3 (average to below average)

Toyota Tundra (needs a major update!)
Ford Explorer (looks like a box)


4 (Ugly Ugly Ugly!)

Honda Ridgeline
Mitsubishi Endeavor
Pontiac Aztec
Honda Element

That's a pretty good list. I think I would swap the Tundra and the Cherokee though. I like how the Tundra looks except for the headlights. I wish they looked more like the 4Runner's, more halogen looking. They still look like the old, box style headlights. I really don't like the new Cherokee, I think it looks worse then the previous body style. As far as pickup truck looks go though the Dodge Ram is definately way ahead of them all. It just looks so beefy and mean, like it wants to eat every other car on the road. That is until all that power under the hood blows the transmission and it sits on the side. I like what they did with the new F150. I'm not a Ford fan but they do build solid trucks, and the new ones look good as well as perform.

What's up with the matte grey body panels on the Element? It's damn ugly and makes it look like a toy car. I can't believe a friend of mine actually bought one after his wife totalled their new CRV. What the heck was Honda thinking?:wtf:

The old G-wagen is bad ass. You see all those rappers bling it with the G-wagen in their music videos. I can guarantee that no rappers will be rockin this new G-wagen in their videos.

Expeditions also fall in the "boring" category. Ford's SUVs just look bland and too similar. The 4Runner and the Sequoia are distinctly Toyota but you can easily tell them apart but the Expedition looks like an overweight Explorer. I also think the Jeep Liberty is kinda wimpy looking.

About Nissans I do like the previous gen Exterra but the new one has the front end of all the other Nissan trucks and kinda ruined it's uniqueness.

If I could afford it I would buy a land rover. I think those are pretty sweet. ALthough, I don't know how well built they are. That is why I love the 4runner. Alot, of bang for your buck. Very versatile. You can go 4X4 in the mountains. Yet, it still looks classy. You can still get the girls to drop their panties with this vehicle cause they think you have money. hahaha

I think the FZJ80 Landcruiser is the best looking SUV on the road that is the body style that ran from 1990 - 1997. The old FJ-40 was also good looking. I like the 1998-2005 Landcrusier but it is not as good looking as the FZJ80 body style and the current Landcruiser body style is dated looking, not at all a classic look. The Mercedes G-500 is classic, but who has that kind of money besides Thai and Brad Pitt . The more I look at some of the new designs the better they look. The 4runner is like that. At first I did not like it, but the longer I looked at the new 4runner the better they looked. The GX470 has a good looking frontend but the profile and rear don't look right and the longer I look at them the more I dislike them (they look like a girls SUV) sorry that is how they hit me. I would love to see Toyota selling new FZJ80 Landcruisers with the 4.7 V8 engine or better yet a Toyota diesel.

Nissan Armada/Infinity

Nissan Murano. Front end needs work, rear quarter window needs work.

Mistu Montero. Those sweeping fender bulges really must go.

GOOD LOOKING:

3rd and 4th gen 4Runners

mid 1990s Landcruiser

original FJ40 landcruiser, what a real SUV should look like

Range Rover, just the SUV to carry my Grey Poupon

Range Rover Discovery....just the thing for the yuppie set

Ford Bronco. Big honest no pretense at being some yuppie soft roader.

Chevy Tahoe 2 door. clean, honest.

Infinity FX35/45

Jeep Wagoneer, the original suburban SUV wagon

Chevy Suburban. the best large SUV around

G-500. the best looking slab sided real NATO born and bred SUV.....serious as a heart attack. You should only play Wagner on the CD......yes, some music from Der Rings der Niebulung, Entrance to Vahalla or Ride of the Valkyries would be appropirate....not even the stupid celebs, rap idiots, and basketball morons with their 22" bling bling wheels could not spoil that design.

Here is my opinion on some of the SUV's on the market. I am only judging them on looks, not on reliability. Even though I think these vehicles look good doesn't mean I would buy it!!

I am a big fan of old Land Rover Defenders. The Azetec and the Scion box SUV are my bid for the ugliest. I am also a big fan of Unimogs. Not common in the USA.

Thai, I know you are kidding, but I didn't mean the older generation of the G-class. I don't like the brand new design coming out (the one that looks like the new generation ML). I saw one of the new ML's in front of an MB dealer and they are ugly!
