SUB VS. AMP question

I'll try out my new setup and see if it hits like I want it, if not I'll sell it! Man I'm good!

I think it will be a decent setup. You'll be running 175 rms to each sub and you can't wire them down to a 2 ohm load without risking burning up the amp. Your subs will be more than safe since they are rated at 250 rms but you may want to run a more powerful amp to them in the future.

004Gunner has a good point. If you don't like how they sound when you put the new one in you could just sell your amp and get a more powerful one. This could save you some money. Just remember though RMS is important to getting loud.

Do you have a sealed or ported box? How many cubic feet?

if i sell my amp ill sell my old box and sub.....

the new box it 33X15X16, with 4 inches out of the 33, because its ported

so the space for the sub it really 33-4=29, devide that by 2 (because i have 2 subs) 29/2= 14.5


so each sub had 14.5x15x16

i dont know the formula for cubic feet

i have 3480 cubic inches for each side, and there are 1728 in 1 cubic foot.


so i have 2.01 cubic feet, and i belive my subs call for a 2foot cube box if its ported! DAMN IM GOOD!

EDIT sealed box volume: 1.25 cubic feet
ported box volume: 2.0 cubic feet

Sounds good. Just remember to take sub displacement into account when making boxes.

i know, 500 is a good ammount for a nice amp, but i only want to spend 300 or 250, because it was arounf 250 for the subs and box....

what RMS am i looking for?? 750 like prunner stated? how many ohms? and how many channels?

i was thinking about going with a MTX amp, i hear they are really good with this sub combo...

i would like them to be louder than my sub i have now but now rattly or be distorted when i crank it up

Those items that I just posted were $500 total or maybe a little less.

If your going with the subs you have now you only need a 500 RMS amp. You want a class D amp that is stable at 1 ohm. All class D amps have one channel.

I've never heard of those subs so I'm not sure what they are like.

Who told you that an MTX amp would go well with those subs? I bet it was someone from Curcuit City. The brand of the amp doesn't matter as long as it does rated RMS.

I guess the biggest suggestion I can give you is to check out caraudio.com. There is a ton of information there. Just search for different things and you will learn a ton.

Are your current subs DVC or SVC?

If they are DVC you can wire them to a 1 ohm load like this: http://www.the12volt.com/caraudio/woofer_configurations.asp?Q=2&I=42

If they are SVC then you can wire them to a 2 ohm load like this: http://www.the12volt.com/caraudio/woofer_configurations.asp?Q=2&I=41

Amps run cooler and more efficient at higher ohm loads, but you lose output also. For exaple an amp might put out 1,600 RMS at 1 ohm, but only 1,100 at 2 ohm. The only upside to 2 ohm is that it will be running a little cooler.

Yeah. 750 RMS will be over the recomended RMS of the subs. I'm not sure if they can take that or not.

right, well the subs say 150-250 rms, and the 300 watt amp at 4ohm i have now pushes these new subs fine, i did pick up my jackhammers and they sound much better than my old one, maybe because i have 2 now.... ill post some pictures tomorrow,

The box looks good man. I'm glad your happy with the outcome. Just a little fyi though the amp does 325 at 2 ohm and 175 at 4 ohm. I'm sure you would be even more impressed if you gave them more power.
