Successful 5th Gen Key fob swap!

Got my key in today. Unfortunately, no Toyota logo on mine, got the smooth back one--but not a biggie. Was a little worried when it turned over but didn't start, but when I reprogrammed the key with the instructions on making a sare chipped key it worked great. Ace Hardware charged me 2 bucks o cut the key, and was alimentary on how it wouldn't work. After the Nintendo door/key magic...he beame a believer! Thanks!:drum:

I put an edit in my original post where you can order the shell only for less than $5. That is, if the smooth back is bothering you. Not really sure why the eBay seller is so inconsistent.

Got mine today, it's got the toyota logo on the back.

I've gotta admit, the key was larger than I thought it would be ( the fob part)

By any chance, does anyone know if the new key from ebay is waterproof? Ive come to really enjoy that feature on my current key and key fob and Im not so sure Id be willing to give it up for a one piece key and fob.

definitely not, its two plastic cases coming together with the brain inside.

Yep my oem one is waterproof. I had them in my swimsuit pocket, sat in a hottub for over an hour, got out and they worked fine. I tested it several other times and water does not get inside.

They are not water proof, there is a rubber cover that makes the chips weatherproof, but submerising them in water will saturate the entire keyfob as they are not water tight. Now, I think Toyota put a coating on the chip itself to further insulate it like you can get for some devices these days, but i am not sure how long or well that stuff lasts.

Do you know what your FCC ID is by chance? I have a 03 Limited as well but my hyq12ban is hard to find. When I do find it they are for 02 and under 4runners.

Just got mine. It came with the logo.
Took about 2 minutes to program. It works great. However it will only go into the ignition one way. I think they may have left a burr on one of the cuts
