So I was out wheeling and I slide into a lake lol:happens:. Truck completely submerged. Now the thing isn't running properly (big suprise)

I started a thread on a local forum so I'm going to cut and paste what I've already done to the truck thus far. Here goes:

FIRST POST:
So I was out wheeling last weekend and I went a little too deep into the water. Luckily i didn't lock the motor, but I cant seem to get it running properly now.

So far I've done the following the she still isn't running properly. I've Changed: Plugs, wires, cap & rotor, fuel filter, emptied water filled exhaust, oil x2, trans fluid, emptied gas tank and filled with 20litres of premium. I'm running out of ideas. Any other suggestions?

SECOND POST:
My tach is messed up, but I'd say yeah, right around 2k-2.5k it seems like fuel could be cutting out. What could this mean?

Unfortunately I don't have a pyrometer or temp probe. The truck is running rich for sure though. It floods sometimes on start, so I have to disconnect the fuel pump, start it, let it clear out, then re-connect the fuel pump wire. It's a real gong-show right now!

THIRD POST:
So I went to a wrecker and picked up a new MAF and Engine Control Unit. Installed MAF, no difference. Installed ECU, check engine light went off! I thought it was all good but nope, same bloody problem when I give it some gas...sounds like loopy cam. The ECU is from a 1992 and my truck is a 1990. I don't think this will matter b/c the truck had identical options.

Now, check engine light is off, but A/T OIL TEMP light is on. I changed the transmission fluid already. I checked the Toyota user manual and it said it could be from the transfer case too (which I didn't change fluid in yet). So, I'm going out to pick up some gear oil and I'm going to change the t-case and diff fluids. I don't think this would effect how the engine revs though?? What do you guys think? There are no check engine codes being thrown anymore so I'm assuming the O2 sensor is okay.

Any suggestions, help, advise will be greatly appreciated!!! Thanks!!

I sunk my 05 pretty good, water above ankles in the cab.......... had to replace the lowest portion of the ecu.
Good luck mate, water is fun to play with but what a cvnt she can be too!
where is the ecu in these rigs?
 
sounds like the same problem i had after sinking mine. code 52...knock sensor? did you try and disconnect your tps sensor and see if it runs any different?
 
Update...

My long weekend was Shiite. Worked on the runner all weekend. Put in new distributer cap & rotor, wires, plugs, fuel filter, alternator (wrecker), ECU (wrecker), MAF (wrecker)…and probably some other sh!t I’m forgetting. Changed all of my fluids, motor, trans, t-case, front/rear diffs. Got all of the warning lights off the dash (check engine, a/t fluid temp, charging system), so that’s good. Unfortunately it’s still running like crap. It’s stuttering like a cun* when ever I give it more than a c-hair of fuel. I put some fuel treatment stuff in the gas tank and let it sit for several hours…went for a drive and for the first couple of mins it was running great! I was super stoked! Then…stuttering starts up again L. I’m thinking that the fuel pump is clogged and not enough fuel is getting to the cylinders when I open the throttle up. I think after a couple mins of driving the crap in the gas probably got stirred up and sucked back to the fuel pump and therefore the stuttering started again. So I drained the fuel tank last night and filtered the gas. I was going to drop the tank and pull out the fuel pump to take a look but I ran into some old rusty and stubborn bolts holding onto the skid plate that took me forever to remove. Got the skid plate off at 9:30 last night and decided to pack ‘er in for the night. My broken hands have been taking a beating from all of the wrenching…they’re soar as fawk. No choice tho. Not going to have time to drop tank tonight. I’ll probably drop it tomorrow after work and scope out the situation with the fuel pump. It’s a bloody nightmare!!So Gay
 
Good news: I replaced my alternator (from wrecker), now charging/power system is working great...that got ride of the "battery" light on my dash board. Flushed out my trans fluid for a second time (more melted strawberry icecream came out), now its all good and that got rid of the A/T trans oil light on dash. So no more lights on dash!!

Bad news: Truck is still stuttering. I'm convinced that fuel delivery is the problem. I put some fuel system treatment in the other night and let it sit in the tank for a few hrs. Took it for a ride and it was running perfectly for the first 2-3mins!! But then it started stuttering again.

I dis-connected a vacuum line and ran it into a cup of gas while the truck was revving at ~2k rpm and the stuttering stopped! Fuel filter is already changed. Must be fuel pump? Only other thing I could think of would be the fuel pressure regulator? Any suggestions? I pulled off the gas tank skid plate last night and will probably drop the tank tomorrow and see if the pump is clogged. I put some Seafoam in the tank so I'm going to run that thru and see if it does anything. I also ran some Seafoam tru the motor to clean out any carbon build up. Any thoughts?
 
When my buddy sank his trying out his new snorkle, all he had to do was replace the ecu. Of course, the regular stuff like pulling plugs, draining / refilling all fluids, etc...

He figured out why it quit on the 4th pass through the pond...didn't seal the TPS so it got wet & shut the engine down.


The top gear toyota was a diesel.

SO I FIGURED OUT THE PROBLEM!! IT WAS THE FAWKING TPS!!!
