I had Ceramic Tint put on mine.
I think I told them to put the next darker shade than clear.
Knocks out the UV's and the heat.

I had a similar concern so I had mine tinted with 90% 3M Crystaline. Blocks 100% UV and has good solar heat rejection without making it much darker.

I think that some studies have actually shown that for the most part there's no real "venting" effect like you'd think. The back of the vehicle gets this sort of unfortunate stagnant air vortex thing going on where it's more likely to push exhaust fumes back into the cabin at most speeds (which is why I always sort of feel bad for the dogs when I see them sticking their heads out the back glass on the freeway). This has been an issue I believe since station wagons were a thing, it's also why Toyota says not to use the rear window open while driving.

My personal opinion on sunroofs is that they are an investment in costly repair, regardless of what you do. You're best bet is to never touch it or acknowledge it's existence and hope that it doesn't leak, shatter, break, and/or cause problems with the lack of use (vs. increasing the risk and probability of such issues by using it.)

In regards to the OP's original point, it's made of the same unlaminated safety glass that the other windows are made of. It might have a smidge more tint to it since it's not regulated the same as door and windshield glass, but I am unaware of any specific rating anywhere in the FSM.

I think im going to go with 3M CR 90 on the windshield and sunroof. I found a place that will do it locally... just gotta find the time.

If you go to a tint shop that has 3M film, and advertise 3M film, but try to sell you on something else when you actually show up, just walk or insist on 3M film and make sure they use it.

I can't tell you how many times that has happened to me... they always try to sell me Global GDP or some other junk...


Either way, tinting is the right solution! That was going to be my first suggestion.

I would use the 3M Color Stable on the sunroof to save a few bucks and the 3M Crystalline CR90 on the windshield.
