Superbumper install

I heard this happens if someone with a front superbumper rear ends someone with a back superbumper.
I thought that's what happens when you shoot reloads in a Glock 22. Or back up with one of those things into a Pinto.

I see the value in the superbumper having been hit twice in bumper to bumper traffic with the tow hitch on. I also see its value in tight parking situations, like parallel parking in DC, although the extra 10" prob hurts more than it helps and nothing you can add except for maybe pillows will enhance the ability of your rear bumper to dampen shock from a collision.
But dammnit i'm going to need a consensus on this issue- lurkers like me don't know what crap to buy next without you people. You can't do this to us. I still can't figure out if I can run 285/70/17s with or without rubbing!

The only consensus that really matters is the one when the left side of your brain agrees with the right side. When it comes down to it, nobody Else's "opinion" really matters.
Yes, I put on 285/70/17 on my SR5 and initially no rubbing at all, no lift. These are not all terrain tires. These are very good all season radials. Maybe, with the All Terrain tires, even though they are the same size, just maybe they might cause more rubbing. I doubt that, but check with a good tire shop first.
Then, I had the castor changed (wheels pushed forward) and I did get a slight rubbing of the inner plastic wheel well while in reverse only, and only when making a hard left or right turn. I simply adjusted those plastic wheel liners forward a little bit, rubbing gone.

Superbumper tested
A line of strong storms went through the Houston area early this week. The road was slick. I was on my way to pick up my son from school when all of the sudden the person in front of me slammed on his brakes. All I heard were the tires locking up from behind. The "taxi" cab (Chrysler minivan) rear ended me at around 5mph (felt like slow motion). Couple of observations:
1. The actual impact was a LOT softer than expected (been rear ended 3 times before).
2. No damage to my car. The taxi's license plate and bumper was another story.
3. Product worked.
It may look ungainly but it saved me the headache of taking down the guy's insurance information and not having the 4runner for a couple of days as the bumper was being refinished.
On a complete side note, I just finished a quick business road trip to San Antonio from Houston. 1 tank; 412 miles; 21.1 MPG; trip to SA 75MPH average; trip back to Houston 80-90MPH (I think I had a very strong tailwind); made the return trip in 2.5 hours (near Alamo to door of my house). Very impressed.

I hate this logic that people use to keep their trailer ball in all the time. I am constantly dodging these things in the parking garage at my office and it kinda upsets me that people want to drive around with a spike on the back of their car that can cut open my doors if I don't see it in a dark parking garage.
If you are driving THAT close to the rear of vehicles as you traverse dark parking garages, YOU have a more serious problem: YOUR driving style. Just measured my "spike" and it sticks out exactly 4.25 inches from the end of my bumper.

So, since energy is neither created or destroyed, and there is a certian amount of energy being introduced into the super bumper, where does that energy go? I would imagine the rubber compresses,which absorbs a small amount by turning it into heat from the compression. The downside is every reaction has an equal and opposite reaction. Which means it pushes forward on the trailer hitch. Which is connected to your frame. Which completely bypasses your crumple zones built into your bumper and it's mounts. Now maybe that super bumper will poke through the front end of whatever rams you, and then the impact will be spread across your bumper when the car hits your actual bumper. Otherwise, your just praying your frame rails/hitch are stronger than the car that hits you, which will hopefully limit damage to your car. Or is there something I'm missing? I'm not trying to be a smart ass, just actually trying to figure out how this could possibly work. Thanks!

I understand your comment SigSense. I don't make it a habit of buzzing peoples rear bumpers, but I am constantly on the look out for trailer hitches in parking lots and tell my wife to be also. The garage here at my office is pretty tight, and meeting oncoming cars on the ramps requires I look out for these things. Yours at 4.25 is not a big deal, but put a Superbumper on there that sticks out almost 10 inches and its a different story.

OMG all of the crying and force calculations sound ridiculous. someone made a great product that protects you from idiots who like to ride your butt and need to hug your bumper. I for one don't like coming out of a store to find my doors banged up and my bumpers smashed by some jerk who cant drive or doesn't give a damn about smacking their old POS into my new shiny 50K ride. I keep my car nice by parking at the end of the lot away from those jerks, and I hate being tailgated. So if I get the superbumper and it does its job by destroying the idiots car who wasn't paying attention. well hell yes - I will be glad it saved me, and hell yes I will say the other guy deserved what they got for not paying attention and driving carelessly. I once watched a guy park in a spot in front of me with ample room and go over the line in the spot to hit my brush guard. People can't drive and we need products like these unfortunately to protect our investments. If I am hit at a high rate of speed, its not gonna matter if there is a brush guard or spare bumper, or rubber all around my car, my fate is in the Gods hands, but if there is a product that will help keep my car looking newer longer, then I am all for it. I am ordering mine this week. I just cant decide if i want the spare bumper or the guard plate.

We hashed this out 3 years ago dude and of course it will fit a 2014. 2" receivers don't change. Ever.
