So, almost everyone has a bigger engine than Toyota, so by American standards they are all better, right? Not only are the engines bigger but so are the rebates. Size matters, right again. When you're driving your Toyota down the street do you feel bad because everyone else has a bigger one. If Toyota is going to close the engine size gap they will have to make a really big one. When they do you will know that when you drive your Toyota down the street everyone is saying there goes a Toyota driver, he has a really big one.

What has this thread come to, Toyota may not make larger truck/towing engines but all their engines are fine and compete well, it may be obvious that the 4.7 will eventually be tuned to 300hp but I think we can all see that coming.
Nissan having the largest SUV and most powerful engines, sounds like a car salesman talking, the only big thing about Nissan is the Armada with the 305hp V8

Although larger displacement generally leads to greater hp/tq numbers, a smaller displacement engine (w/the proper tuning and technology) can produce just about the same power. Let's compare the 4.3L V8 in the GS430 (300hp & 325lb-ft of tq) to the 4.7L vvt-i V8 (270/282hp & 330lb-ft). The Avalon has the same V6 as the 4R/Taco, but w/a shorter stroke, thus displacing 3.5L vs 4.0L, but it puts out 280hp & 260lb-ft vs the 4.0's 245hp & 282lb-ft. Both figures are relatively close. The engines can be tuned for more power & less torque and vice versa, based on the application. Of course the power curve and smoothness are some of the other factors to take into consideration. Basically what I'm trying to say is that Toy doesn't need to make a really large displacement V8 (i.e.- 5.9L) to compete w/the other automakers. I'm sure a 5.2L-5.4L will be more than adequate to take on the competitors, and it'll be one refined motor too! Too bad they don't make a turbodiesel motor for the US models. 
BTW: Eventhough the Nissan 4.0L V6 has 20/25 more hp & an extra 9lb-ft of torque compared to Toy's 4.0L V6, they are also about 300-400lbs heavier than the 4R/Taco. Even the V6 Pathfinder outweighs the V8 4R by over 200lbs! More hp doesn't always mean faster acceleration times. Just my 2cents

I don't think you guys are looking at the important numbers. Even though Nissan's engines are making more HP, they are not as quick. Look at the 4Runner; there are only a couple SUVs that are quicker, even the big V8 Nissans (Titan, Armada) only come close. Take the 4.0 V6s; Nissan's Frontier makes 20 more hp then the Tacoma, yet the Tocoma is quicker and gets better gas mileage. I can give several other examples. The only exception is the Sequoia, it is underpowered. You have to look at the big picture; the whole auto industry is changing because of the price of gas (and future price). Look at the Heep, they are already discontinuing the Hemi, and developing the 4.7. Take a look at the Avalon, whip the shit out of the competition and gets 30mpg. I have to say Toyota is making just enough hp/tq to be in the lead and get the best gas mileage in most classes.

People young and old learn the hard way that you don't buy cars based on numbers alone, I've had several people in my 4Runner and when they heard it was only 235hp they where like damn I would have guessed close to 300 and my 170hp 2000 Nissan Pathfinder was a powerhouse against a V6 Explorer:
