Supercharger install pending, need a little help/clarification

It's the factory one. I just put on the supercharger like 4 months ago. I ordered the install kit and it came with the dipstick bracket but not the wire bracket. I hadn't even heard about the wire bracket, or read about it in the installation instructions.

Edit: I just looked at the installation instructions again and it does mention that bracket, I must have just overlooked it.

Ya, if you have some a angle Grindr or bench Grindr you can just modify your factory one like I did and you'll be golden. Just make sure you flip the harness the backside of the bracket so it doesn't come into contact with the thermostat housing or pullys/belts.

A quick search through this forum says .032. Speedy's 4runner page says .032. Mostly all the other forums and posts I've seen through a google search has said .043 as well as urd

Ya. Idk. So mine, assuming they are all gapped the same, are at .032. I'll be driving it around today and will let you know if I have any issues with misfire or bogging/stuttering.

Ok thanks, I'll try that.

I've actually ran my plugs at both gaps and I didn't notice a difference. I ran it for a couple weeks at .032 and then I took it all back off to have my injectors cleaned and then I gapped them to .043 when I put it back together.

So good news/bad news. Good news, install is done. Bad news, I drove around a bit and my CEL came on for a p0171 and I had this come on every so often before and I've already replaced my MAF...It hesitates and bogs when I try and get on it but driving normally produced no issue. I'm thinking I have a defective or dirty MAF maybe? Thoughts? Also, here's another picture of a S/C engine bay to add to the 1,000 others. Lol

Man the 2nd gens are so much prettier...haha That sucks though about the issues. I haven't had any CEL's so far, but I've heard of others getting the P0171. I'd clean the MAF and throttle body first and go from there. Are all the vacuum lines hooked up correctly? Could there be an issue with the K&N not getting a good seal or something with the MAF?

I wouldn't think so, didn't have any bogging or hesitation before...

It could also just be that you're forcing more air in than the ecu was used to so it needs to re-learn.

If that were the case, wouldn't the install reset the ECM when you leave the negative cable disconnected during the entire install?

It would reset but it still needs to learn and if you smash on it, it's going to blow more air in and show it running lean. I got the same code at first and even stalled on me once after I had just installed it, it just takes a little time for the ecu to fully learn the newly forced air. I haven't had any issues like that since.

So I went to toyota and one of the mechanics took a peek at it for me. His verdict, 1000% ditch the K&N(it will throw a p0171 even on a stock rig) FML. I've had that code for DAYYYYYSSSS!! Secondly, regap my plugs to .043. So props to zacattack20 for the URD .043 gap info, your on the money bud.

Never ending project! Anyone want to trade a K&N intake for a stock box? Or an AEM intake for a stock box? Lol also, here I go pulling the plugs for the second day in a row. Denso are liars!! Every single plug is gapped between .029 and .030...I'm betting that's mostly my problem :frusty:

Well that sucks, but I've never liked the intakes all that much. I'm sure you could find someone to trade. I was wondering if my plugs were gapped small out of the box because you mentioned yours were factory at .32". Hopefully that fixes your issues and you can get back to boost!

After the regap it drives better, but its still not right.
Ive checked all the vacuum lines and the plugs and and and….GRRRRR. I did pull the ECM fuse and relay so we will see how it drives after a day of driving tomorrow. Also, gonna get a factory air box.

Hey Shane...it's been a couple of days, just wondering if you got things figured out yet. I know you where looking for an air box...but did you discover anything else that could be the problem? Vacuum leak, vacuum line out of order??? Did the ECM re-learn with the S/C...or was that just a myth??

Hope you got her running properly. Otherwise...wow, what a freakin tease!!! Having a sexy little S/C sitting on top your motor...all that money and hard work...and now you have less horsepower...lol!!!

Let us know what up buddy...I'm pulling for you!!

Hey RussToy, so great news!! I found a stock intake yesterday that I traded another intake I had for it. I swapped it on for my K&N and my car runs 100% now. Apparently the supercharger doesn't work if run with aftermarket intakes due to less airflow restriction. It has lost some mid to top end acceleration, but it now drives perfect without any sputtering or hesitation. So word to the wise, NO aftermarket intakes with the superchargers, they do not like it. So happy now, love how it drives. So much more enjoyable.image.jpg

nor_cal51501 that's awesome!! I'm glad for you that it was an easy fix. Kind of hard to understand how a supercharger can get "too" much air...but it is what it is. That's a lot better than chasing down vacuum leaks or trying to figure out how to re-learn the ECM...lol!!

Im a little worried now...Although, I have my stock air box, I purchased an AEM dry Hi-Flow air filter and an Airaid intake tube. Suppose to flow better air by basically getting rid of that big stupid resonator box. I hope running this type of an intake...doesn't screw up my system like the K & N intake/filter did yours!! I paid like $150 for them back in November..that's a lot of money to not get to use them.

Airaid Intake Tube, Air Raid Cold Air Intake Tube

Now since you don't have the 7th injector system...your basicly done...right?? I guess there isn't anyway to really tune the engine?!? So, what are you going to do for extra fuel? Run water meth? Or, due to where you live and running the stock S/C pulley...you don't need anything?? No pinging to deal with??
