I fully expect Obama, who has gone on record and stated marriage is between a man and a woman when he was trying to get elected in 2008, to strongly denounce this ruling and advise Eric Holder to punish states that allow for same sex unions.

I swear, this sequence just flashed though my mind...
'likes" comment -> ends up on watch list -> lifelong delays at airports -> dies waiting for treatment waiting for Obamacare to approve operation
OTOH - glad this is one step closer to being accepted (at least in a civil sense). Divorce attorneys everywhere are staffing up.

I'm wondering how long before a gay married couple moves to a state that doesn't recognize gay marriage.....and how that particular case will affect direct democracy. Today's cases allowed the SC to have their cake and eat it too.

I'm not a good man, but I'd like to think of myself as a just man.
I don't understand homosexuality, don't really want to. But at the same time I want to have no business in keeping someone from being happy--especially when it's no business of mine who they marry and/or love. We're all trying to find that one person who accepts us, and I sure as hell have much more important things going on than keeping marriage rights away from people who are in no way hurting or affecting me.
The tiny little optimist in me that sometimes sees the light of day when the cynic is waist deep in a bottle of bourbon sees this as an opportunity to treat our fellow man with more dignity. I'll leave it at that.
No true loving God would send someone to hell for being gay. And I have my own sins to answer for before judging others.

It's a wicked blow to States rights for sure, but the precedent that the Fed can supercede a local vote was well established when the North won the Civil War

Allow me to clear this up for you and confrim you lost absolutely nothing today.
The DOMA ruling did not say every state had to allow gay marriages. It simply said, of those states that do allow gay marriages (there are 12 of them plus the district of columbia) the Federal Government has to recognize them, just like it does with straight marriages.
