I have read so much over the last weeks my brains are scrambled. I have a 1993 4x4 v-6 auto. I like to offroad a lot but not extreme rock crawling. I dont wanna beat the hell out of it. I spend 50/50 on and off road. I want to lift it about 4" and i want good offroad handling but i need to be able to pull my camper with it also. Please, give me some advise. Thank you.

You WANT to lift, or you NEED to lift? Those are two very different things. Lifting the truck will raise your center of gravity and directly impact your handling offroad and on. If you don't absolutely need the additional frame rail clearance or room to stuff bigger tires, I wouldn't lift it at all.

If you'll pardon me, "I like to offroad but not rock crawl" almost always seems to mean "I like dirt roads". You don't need a lift for dirt roads. :)

First off, what size tire do u plan on running? You'll only need 2-2.5" to run 33/10.50s. Old Man Emu is the way to go then. If u plan on 35s then yea, any 4" drop bracket lift will suffice. Don't forget the gear swap. 4.88s for 33s and 5.29s for 35s.

What they said. ^^^^^

The Old Man Emu kit gives you a nice upgrade over stock with a moderate lift. The purpose of lift is to give you more ground clearance, better flex of your suspension and room for bigger tires. Dirt roads require none of that. The IFS stock is great for dirt roads with tires aired down to about 20PSI.

33x10.5s will get you almost anywhere 35s will take you, with much less wear and tear. It's much cheaper to gain the little clearance needed to run them or their equivalent.

The Old Man Emu products are great. Good ride, and quality components. Up front, you may want to look into going with the Ball-Joint spacers to increase the front travel, and gain some lift without making the ride stiffer.

Rocky Road is sheisty, though. I don't personally know anybody that has done business with them and come away happy.

I got my OME from Cruiser Outfitters here in Salt Lake. Awesome company to deal with. I've heard good things about Toytec and Wheelers too.

4x4connection.com also carries the OME suspension lifts, and if I remember right, their prices were quite competitive. I'm thinking that's who I bought mine from on my first rig.

good too know. i know a few years ago i was looking to buy from them

The Toytec kit comes with ball joint spacers so you don't have to crank the torsion bars. Hence the reason it costs more. Also, Toytec's service is second to none.

For bracket lifts, Rough Country seems to be the ticket.

ahh, i missed the bj spacer. i plan on getting some stuff from toytec soon too. glad they are top notch

I dont consider dirt roads offroading. I just am not into exrteme rock crawling, I dont want to flip my truck even by accident. I am going to run 33x10.5 but i want them to tuck and have good articulation as well. No, not doing a sas.

I am also very mechanically inclined, ive built several vehicles and my 4Runner is number 47, so, i am definetly not foreign to some wrench time.

Maybe it would help if you explained EXACTLY what it is you want to do with your 4Runner. On a scale of 1-10 with 10 being extreme Rock crawling and 1 being your basic dirt forest road, where do you see yourself driving.

The OME kit recommended above will allow you to climb 90% off all offroad trails in the country including some fairly decent rock crawling. At the same time, it makes for a decent stock upgrade for on road driving.

Cool. I didn't intend to imply that you're a noob or whatever, just trying to get a feel for how you use the truck. :)

I ran 33 skinnies on my '86 with just a ball joint spacer and a 2" spring lift in the rear. I think the Toytec package that FoG linked would be a good option for you.

I have a 3 inch OME , a 1 inch body. Panhard drop kit, diff drop etc. It preforms to my requirements. As you can see it doesnt get thrashed. I dont rock crawl, I go exploring and go as far as I can with what I have. If you want to be able to tow I wouldnt go as high IMO, but thats just me. I have a 22RE Ill never be able to tow with those tires. Unless I want to go 20 MPH the whole way.
