Suspension lift and vibrations-

Hi guys. I just picked up my brand new trail edition. I already have a lifted 2008 tacoma that acquired a weird vibration after I lifted it. Almost like the pinion angle was too great. When I pull out from a stop, it vibrates the driveline, then goes away after about 5-10 mph. I'd hate to lift my new rig, and have the same problem. Do you guys notice this when lifting the 4runner? Also, when lifting it 3", does the cv shaft boots have a angle that will cause premature wear? I ask this also because when I put a spacer kit in my truck originally, the cv angle was increased a lot, which prompted me to buy a 6" fabtech kit so my cv angle would be back to normal. I'd hate to go thru the same problems with my 4runner as my taco. I'm looking at possibly buying an icon stage 2 lift. Any ideas?? I'm only looking to get 3" of lift at the most to be able to run some 275\70\17 tires on my stock trails without ANY rubbing at all when on a trail. Thanks for the response guys. I'd really appreciate them!!

I'm not too familiar with the Tacoma driveline,
But there's a sliding yoke on the rear propeller shaft of the 4Runner. Ostensibly, this relieves the pinion angle within a reasonable lift

I will look into that. Does this have to be adjusted with a 3" lift?

You can run 275's with no lift or rub if you use the stock wheels. Might have to have an alignment to push your caster up a bit is all. Lift really doesn't help much with rubbing.

How high did you lift your Tacoma? And was your carrier bearing shimmed downwards after the lift? I know when I first lifted my 2015 taco 3" I put 3/4" spacers and longer bolts at the carrier bearing and added a 1" diff drop up front. After I did a drop bracket 6" bds lift on my taco my driveline vibration came back and I ended up fabing up a 2-1/2" carrier bearing drop bracket and it got rid of it. It currently sits at 8" cranked up with a frankensteined RCD bilstein 5100s with Toytec coilover sleeves and AALs out back. I lifted my 2016 t4r TRD pro 3" with bilstein 6112s set at the 5th notch up and Toytec rear HD coils. Haven't had any driveline vibrations yet from that setup.

For what it's worth, I did the Toytec TRD/FJ 2" lift kit but I exchanged the Toytec 2" rear springs for SAW 1 and 1/2" springs. After the lift was installed I noticed a slight shudder once I hit 22mph and in third gear (I can't get it to stay in 2nd gear when trying to idle at that speed). It goes away (I can't pinpoint when) at different speeds but completely gone by 25 mph. When I step on the gas to accelerate fast it doesn't happen. Most noticeable when crawling around the 22 mph speeds stuck in rush-hour traffic. It's not really bad and passengers don't notice it at all so I know it's subtle but I still feel it. I have checked the rear for leaks but nothing yet.

Front, driver-side, inner diff. seal was replaced under warranty as it was leaking but I think the problem is isolated to the rear. I have pumped the yoke full of lube but that hasn't made it all together disappear yet either. I have driven with extra sand bags in the rear to try and squat the vehicle down because the SAW's were giving me 2" of lift instead of just 1 and 1/2". That seemed to make the most difference so I believe the pinion angle may be my actual issue.

Each build, as much as these vehicles are mass-produced have quirks and I think my quirk is showing up in a 2" rear lift whereas others have 3" lifts or more and I haven't found or seen complaints.

You may not have any issues but I am just throwing it out there that I have got something going on with just a 2" lift but it's not really noticeable. I could probably fix it with some Icon, adjustable lower-rear control arms and make sure the pinion angles are square with the transfer case angle but that's for another day when extra money magically shows up!

Got the fabtech 6" lift, with dirt logic coil overs cranked up 2". I only have the carrier bearing spacer from fabtech which is like 1" or so I think. Maybe I need to drop it down more like you did! I'll look into that Thank you!!

Thank you so much for the info. That's the kind of stuff I'm worried about. Just coming from my tacoma which has been lifted since it had paper plates, and not noticing anything because of the mud tires on it. Only after I put the stocks on, I noticed it. I hate to have the same thing happen with the 4runner!! Thanks for the insight!!

Just an FYI, I replaced my carrier bearing today and it seems to help a little
