Suspension Lift Question

I plan on doing a lift to my 2010 Limited. Originally, I was just going to do the Toytec spacers (3" lift) but after further searching and reading, it sounds like it won't help the nose dive thats present. Sounds like the nose dive is caused by the springs being insufficient. Also, my limited has the XREAS which seems to be decent. My question is, can I go the route of using FJ 3" Lift springs with the XREAS? I haven't seen anyone here try that. Use will primarily on-road with occasional off-road to get to trailheads. Any information is much appreciated. Thanks.

I am sure you could put new springs in but boy it will be a pain putting them in and not messing up the system. Good luck which ever direction you go.

If you add 3 inches to the springs but don't change the shocks, you end up with 3" less of total travel, which isn't good. It may even risk destroying your shocks because they would be topping out all the time. You need to go with longer shocks if you lift that much.

You could always get the same length springs but just get a higher spring rate.

Just the information that I was looking for. Sounds like the XREAS is going to be taken out and replaced with new shocks and struts. Anyone know how to remove XREAS without losing all of the fluid. I remember someone saying there are check valves involved. Time to search further.

The check valves are very easy to work with; took a total of 15 mins to remove the XREAS lines when I installed sliders (I left the lines & cylinders in place after doing the lift; didn't feel like removing them at the time). Didn't lose a drop of fluid. The repair manual has very good directions.

You're really gonna rip out that suspension system that you paid for to replace it with a simpler one? For a couple inches of lift? Dang ill be interested to see if you find the ride quality you're looking for. Good luck with the mods

I'd take my coilovers over any xreas system.

Yea coil overs are the way to go for off-roading; however I thought he was talking about spacers. For on road comfort your coilovers aren't as smooth as that limited's suspension anyway. And unless you're running some icons foxs etc, I'd take the stock suspension all day over an OME or toytec.. But to each their own

Ok, have a question, hopefully someone can answer it for me. Trying to get a 3inch lift with tires 285 70r 17. Right now my toyota dealership says they can do it for about 1400$ for the lift alone. That sound about right? I'm a rookie so don't know too much about the stuff but would loved to get learned.

I'm guessing they would install spacers in the front and stiffer springs in the rear. A kit like that could cost $300-400. and they will charge you the difference in labor.

Spend the $1,400 on quality equipment and do the install yourself.

So i talked to my Toyota dealership and they say they can install a Ready Lift for me for about $1400. Anyone with some experience know if that would be a good idea or not?

What kind of lift and what parts? You can get spacers for around $150 for the parts so that would be $1250 for about 3 hours of labor so no that does not sound right if it's just a spacer lift .

You did the right thing to ask but you should research and research some more. Here's a pretty complete list of FJ options and they will all or mostly all work on our 4Runners. We need to get a compilation like this on our site............... The NEW Complete Lift Listing and Comparison, they're all here! UPDATED! - Toyota FJ Cruiser Forum

Considering that the ReadyLift kit is nothing more than a simple spacer lift, I recommend bringing LOTS of lube when they bend you over and rape you.

Seriously, run away...

Shit, for $1400, I'll drive out to your place and install a POS ready lift, while your choice of escort entertains you.

Alright well thats why i was asking, did some research and saw that price, wasn't sure if i was looking at the wrong ready lift or what. Any opinion on a 3 inch lift? looking for something under 1500, thanks
