Swapping Hoods

local body shop quoted me 1k to prime/paint a TE hood to match my limited.

dunno how much from the stealer it'd be.


new update: from my dealership the hood would be 375....and 450 to paint.

That sounds about right.

Any other parts besides 53301-35230

So I just orderded the trail hood part 53301-35230, but I am now reading about people ordering the hood AND "scoop insert".

I was under the impression that the trail edition hood was a direct swap with the SR5 with nothing more to order besides the scooped hood.

What is the ''scoop insert''? Is it an additinal part that has to be orderded?

Down here in SoCal we have pick a part places and I was able to find a replacement hood for my brother-in-laws 4runner to replace the one that was thrashed. Are they not as available where you are at?

It will fit, but the new hood will be a lot of money, i have a feeling you will a rough time convincing the stealer to order you one.

every dealer I asked was more than happy to order a hood for me.. I just can't justify spending the $$ on it..

anyone with a mag grey TE hood id gladly swap my sr5 hood out, no dings dents or chips. i will even ship it for a trade.

There is something about a non-funtional hood scoop that just doesn't do it for me. Sure the look is nice, but the fact it is nothing but a prop is a little embarrassing imo. Not to mention the nasty glare that reflects off of it that will blind you once in a while. Okay, let the bashing on me commence.....

wont the engine take in some cooler air? your saying that it serves no purpose, sure i want it for appearance but im torn between just getting a colgan custom sports bra for the top of the hood. itll look nice with my gun metal on black.

Dress up your 4Runner however you like. I'll never say you're wrong to do so. The non-functional hood scoop doesn't work for me. Just like M-badges on a non-M BMW....

No air is coming in from the scoop, you have a black plastic panel that make it look like it's open. I was not going to get one, but it came with my TE and love the look.

so its basically for decoration anyway, it looks great but i think im just going to go with the colgan sports bra for the hood, its cheaper.
