swimmerdude1127's build thread

What I meant was more in terms of time budgeting since something unexpected can always come up. For me when I was removing the stock running boards one of the captured nuts inside the frame had come loose so that bolt had to be drilled out. On the TE you also have to mess around with the KDSS lines, which can take some extra time.

Good point on the KDSS lines...I didn't have that issue...though I did have to remove all the the other LE suspension crap. That DOES take a while.

Well, plans changed this weekend because I misjudged the shipment of the bumper.

For the skids I used Rustoleum hammer finish primer/paint in one. I used "black" but it ended up coming out a lot like the MGM color... hey, works out for me :D
This paint is tough stuff! But if you use it be sure to do two coats because some of the dimples after one coat show the bare material, so if you only do one coat you won't get the rust protection you really want.

SCS-6's went on along with 285/70/17 MT/R kevlars
Shrockworks sliders and TE trim went on, still have to drill the extra holes
Shrockworks full skids went on

And on to the pics!

Aggressive tread

Using a floor jack with a wooden board underneath the gas tank skid...

Same with other skids...

Clean underbody shot...

Coming later this week, hopefully if/when I get time... mounting fire extinguisher in rear cargo bay (thanks Okki for the tips) and mounting the bracket for my 4gal Rotopax fuel carrier on my rack... speaking of which,
WarnerD9, is there a loose piece that rattles around in your 4gal Rotopax? I got mine used for a good deal and it appears to be in great shape and even came with the better spout but there is a piece rattling around inside there. Obviously when it gets filled with fuel it won't be such an issue but I was wondering if you know what this might be?

I haven't noticed anything rattling. But I haven't listened for one.
When it's empty, there's no way you wouldn't notice it. It's gotta be some kind of other spout that came off in there. No big deal. Thanks for the input.

Anything rattling in your rotopax should not be there. I would see if you can move it around. If you can get a view on it through the spout opening, you can make an assessment if you need to remove it, or can live with it.

Beyond that... I am so looking forward to taking your rig out for coffee next time I'm in your neck of the woods! It's coming together VERY nicely indeed! :bigok: :thumb::tea:

Sounds good bro! Thanks for the compliment. Also thanks for the ongoing help more than anything haha.

As far as the Rotopax rattle thing, I'm fairly sure with a degree of patience I'll be able to get it out or figure something out.

Also hopefully later today I'll have a little surprise on here regarding a mounting bracket for my E 40". If it all comes out okay (no mod I've ever done has, so that's a lofty goal lol), then it will be pretty sweet and the results should be reproduceable for anyone looking to go E 40" on a Gobi Stealth.

Looking good! I really like those SCS-6s, a lot.

Would you mind posting more pics of the Shrockworks TE Trim? And maybe some with the doors open. Really interested in getting these. How do you feel about them now that you have them on?

I can take pics for ya hopefully tonight. I like them. Easy install and look clean.

I sent shrockworks an email with my recommendation, not sure if they'll add this to the parts kit. But if you end up getting them, on that front screw you have to use about a 1/8"-3/16" plastic/nylon washer between the trim piece and the rubber rivet that fits into the hole. If you don't then the rubber rivet can't physically extend in fair enough to seat into that hole.

If you recall my post on the trim, this is the part I spoke about. I ditched the rubber rivet and installed jack nut insert. Also replaced all the screws with stainless steel. Has worked perfectly...no problem. Picked up the jack nut at the local Ace hardware.

Notice anything? :D

I had a local Tacoma guru who works in a fabrication shop make me brackets. They fit an E 40" under the Gobi stealth by mounting under the front Gobi support brackets, using the original bolts. He saved the design so if anyone wants to go this route please PM me and I can give you his contact info.

Yeah I think a jack nut would have worked there as well but after calling Shrockworks they said some models have a double wall of sheet metal there which could affect a jack nut... the extra spacer I used worked out perfectly. Either way I think you'd be fine, and besides it's not a structural support piece or anything so even if you didn't have the strength from that fastener I wouldn't anticipate any issues.

Holy Lumens Batman! You need a radiation sticker for the front of your truck. Whoever end up in front of that will walk away with tan-lines! LOL

Finally got the 40" fit up there just right and got it wired.

Here's a pic of the final product from the front, pretty much looks the same as before. The 3 SR lights will be coming off and I'll be putting the fairing there. The SR lights are not wired right now in conjunction with the E 40". It was much easier that way and also prevents me from blowing the 15A fuse.

Here's a pic showing the clearance from the roof. These mounts don't move at all! Super stout. I have about 3/8" of clearance between the light and the roof.

Passenger side bracket:

Like I said before, if anyone is looking to do this and wants the specs on the bracket, I can either give them to you straight up or get you in touch with the guy I used to fab mine up. He saved the design in Solidworks/CAD.

I keep forgetting to take this pic for you. I'll try to get it done today!
