switched to a GX470

I just upgraded this week by selling my 04 4Runner and buying a 06 GX470 from Texas. No more rust! I have to say the 4Runner is by far best vehicle I ever owned and because of that wanted to have the same 4.7 V8 engine. The 4Runner sold on Craigslist in one day! It was kinda scary buying the GX470 without seeing and driving first but when it arrived at my door and rolled off the carrier I was impressed!

Sorta wrong :tongue1: They're the North American equivalent of the 120 series Land Cruiser Prado, same platform as the 4th-gen 4Runners so there's lots of parts interchangeability. The main body is Prado 120, different front ends/headlights and rear bumpers

Congrats! Always liked the GX470 and would have picked one up if I only wanted to do lift and tires, however the GX has really limited support for aftermarket products compared to the 4Runner.

It has 144K miles which is the same as my 04 4Runner had when I bought it, and I drove that for 8 years! I am hoping to do a repeat with new GX470. The 4Runners really hold their value, I paid 7500 for the 4Runner 8 years ago and sold for 4500 easily with 212K on the clock, probably could of got more but I wanted a fast sale so I could transfer the plates over. The GX470 cost me 12K with 700 bucks for the shipping. Probably overpaid a bit but came down to a nice clean Texas one was worth the extra money rather than the northeast ones I was looking at! The leather looks fantastic like the two back seats were never used. It rides much better than the 4Runner as well and since it still has stock exhaust, I can hardly hear it run.

Congrats! Beautiful new rig. I've been thinking about making the swap to a GX470 or even a LX470 too. Not sure if I could live with the side opening rear door on the GX470 though. Keep us updated on how you like your new rig!

Based on mileage and condition I would say you didn't overpay, I think you got a good deal, I'd do it.

Very nice, and congratulations! My 4Runner is the same color - shows dirt almost as much as black does, but hardly any color looks better clean. Incentive for me to keep it clean and waxed more often. As for the price, if you like it, you didn't overpay. Enjoy!

The back door swinging open hasn't bothered me yet. I will probably take the rear seats right out. I did have problems with the latch on the 4Runner so maybe actually this is a better design with less problems. What I notice right away is the center console is gone and I am used to setting my arm there! I may be imagining things but the doors opening and closing seem to be more solid than the 4Runner. Overall I am very pleased with purchase= the heated seats are nice as well as the levinson speaker system and I never had navigation and back up camera before, The air suspension is way better ride and now look forward to towing my boat so the back end won't sag. The color matches my boat as well! I had it on the lift at the oil undercoating place and they could not believe it was an 06!

That's the way to do it. I flew down to Houston and drove mine back to NH 4 years ago. Keep up on that undercoating every year. Paid $17200 for mine with 105k miles.

I also prefer the non-swing hatch and fold flat seats, took out the drivers rear seat completely, and all 3rd row. But overall they're great trucks.

I don't think so my man. GXOR has taken off and Lexus has made it's own sub group dedicated to GX overlanding. Plenty of support for it available.

I think my next car after my 4R dies will be a GX. That dealership is right down the street from me lol. Should have told me, I would've driven it up for you for beer and bbq.

GX460 might have some limited aftermarket support, the 470 has plenty...

A heavily modified Long travel GX is probably in my list of top 3 off-road vehicles I would like to own one day... to a degree even more so than even the Land Cruiser itself.
