Switching from conventional oil to syn at 36k? bad idea?

The feedback I received when I asked this question boiled down to if you know how the engine was maintained.
If you're not sure how it's been maintained, or haven't been keeping up with it your safer bet is sticking with conventional.
If you're the original owner, and/or know it's been maintained properly there shouldn't be any problems. FWIW, I made the switch this weekend with 36,100 miles on mine.

Once you start getting into the 75-100K range then you shouldn't change. Before then it ought to be just fine.
I tired the switch from dino to synthetic on my 94 ranger when it was at the 90K range or so and it did fine, until in 3K miles I would burn up a quart of oil. I was fine after going back to regular ol dino oil.

Do it, and never look back. You can easily go 7500 miles between changes w/ full synthetics. I would go ahead and do the differentials and transfer case w/ synthetics also.
Out of habit, I grease my driveshaft zircs when I do the oil changes, just a couple of pumps will do it. I use the mobil 1 synthetics for all that I have mentioned, driveline included.

The only thing I do differently is I still stick with the 5k mile suggested intervals between oil changes even though I am running Mobil 1. I do it for two reasons...1) I am still under the drivetrain portion of my warranty. If something did go wrong with my engine (highly unlikely, I know), I could prove that I followed the maintenance schedule and 2) Even though synthetic oil lasts longer than dino oil, it can only suspend so much carbon and contaminants. You can change your filter and keep going on the synthetic oil for longer but if I'm going to take the time to change the filter (and loose a bunch of oil in the process), it's just easier for me to change the oil at the same time.
Either way, you should be fine going to full synthetic oil and I would recommend doing so. I started with Mobil 1 at my first oil change (5k miles). I just hit 50k miles on my '07 V8 4Runner and it still drives like it's brand new!

This is a tough question though. At my job we changed oil in a 08 Range Rover and assumed it was synthetic, but it wasn't. I was curious of why they wouldn't and to make sure it wasn't synthetic and the service tech told me, "Range Rovers are actually designed (PRE-2010) for conventional oil use because of the gaskets and o-rings." WEIRD and got me thinking about my 4runner. But I switched at 37k to synthetic without knowing the history of my 4runner and so far so good. You'll be fine.

i didn't try their motor oil. But i tried their synchromax transmission/Gear fluid on my other vehicle. I hate it period. I drove back home and drain out.
I also read many people hates their products...
Base on my experience, i think it is ok oil. But there are better products than RP for that price or little less than RP $...just my two cents.

If it gives you some assurance I switched over to a synthetic blend (Valvoline Maxlife) on a 1997 T4R Limited with 112,000 miles that was previously maintained with conventional dealer bulk oil by the previous owner.
After the initial switch to blend I went to full synthetic without any problems.
If you use synthetic put a good extended drain oil filter on like Mobil 1 or Fram Extended Guard which are rated for 15 and 10 thousand miles, respectively. And you could easily do once a year oil changes.
