Synthetic vs Dino Oil

I am sure this question has been posted before and there are many varying opinions supported by facts but I will ask it again!
What is the advantage of using synthetic oil vs dino oil and would anything be gained by using it in my new 2003 4Runner Limited V8 4x4?
I see the oil changes have gone from recommended 3months/6000 km between changes for my just traded in 1999 4Runner V6 to 6 months/8000 km for the new Runner.

Really up to you to choose...there is no 100% correct answer to the question. Personally, i use Castro GTX (regular oil).

Can't go wrong with either...but do NOT slack on oil changing if you go the synthetic route!

Congrats on your new 4Runner, LTC! I hope it serves you well.
The oil thing is a debatable topic for sure, but in my opinion, a true synthetic is better for the cold/hot extremes. Most people agree it flows better on start up, especially on those cold Canadian winter mornings. I would bet your engine will remain cleaner over the long run, too. I'll probably use Mobil 1 if and when I get a new 4Runner. I have not rec'd any calls on my 4sale Audi, yet, so I'm beginning to formulate plan B!

Keep us up to date on your impressions of the truck as time goes on. I'm hoping a 4Runner will be like a bmw in that they get better every time you get in them...for years. Unlike many new vehicles where the thrill is gone after 6-12 months, a bimmer that is not a lemon provides endless satisfaction and actually gets better as you slowly discover the subtle brilliance of the bmw engineers.

After break in, slap that puppy down into 3rd and enjoy the tremendous sound of that V8 growl / wail ! (Hey, gas prices have dropped big here in the last 3 days.)
