T-man's '05 Sport Build Thread

You inspired me to cut my LCA's off this weekend for new bushings, greaseable bolts, greaseable ball joints, and SPC UCA's. Cutting those bolts was a b*tch! Angle grinder on the bottom as far as I could then hours of sawzall from the top. Almost done except for one ball joint is stuck in there pretty well, 20 ton press doesn't make it budge at all. How'd you get yours out?

Also with how seized those lower bushings were, holding the LCA in place I can easily see how just replacing the bushings/bolts would allow more lift and a better ride.
Just put some heat to the LCA around the BJ area, don't be afraid to put it on there.
They should press right out then. I used a little propane bottle and tip.

Went for a ride today. uploadfromtaptalk1444351882497.jpg
This tree root I was trying to take an accurate picture of is almost to my waist high! uploadfromtaptalk1444351990037.jpguploadfromtaptalk1444352027838.jpg
This Hill is crazy big! I have to hold it to the floor and hope for the best to make it over the top. Took me two tries today. uploadfromtaptalk1444352107508.jpguploadfromtaptalk1444352171845.jpguploadfromtaptalk1444352250341.jpguploadfromtaptalk1444352295760.jpg

Went to the offroad park today, took my 7 yr old and had a blast! Came across a group of 8 jeeps, 2 buggies, and 4 4runners. 2 first gen, 2 3rd Gen, I was the only 4th Gen. Went through a mud hole to fast and got water in the intake, then broke my drivers side cv axle that I just replaced a few months ago. I've had suspicions that it wasn't very good right from the beginning, guess this confirms it. It was the regular Cardone not the HD one like I have on my passenger side.
I'm buying a new one from autozone that is duralast brand and has a lifetime warranty. Entirely worth it for $61!

Wow, looks like fun! Too bad it came at the cost of that CV axle :( When you say you got water in the intake..what stopped it from getting sucked into the engine?

Oh it did! I stalled out, had to wait a couple minutes and then it started back up. Spitting and sputtering for a couple minutes. Needed to clean my air cleaner anyways.

Replaced my broken cv axle today. Sheared that sucker clean off! Lol uploadfromtaptalk1444703921161.jpguploadfromtaptalk1444703942893.jpg

Nice work! Vsc/A-track doing its thing?
Thanks!
Yup, I worked the hell out of it this last weekend! I have to say, I don't know if it's worth my cost to get lockers for it. Probably, but I haven't needed them so far. Of course, I don't rock crawl, but I've had tires in the air many times and it just keeps chugging on.

Rolled over 200k last night. uploadfromtaptalk1444876038748.jpguploadfromtaptalk1444876061025.jpg

When I went to replace my cv axle the other day I realized i had forgotten the key to my locking lug nuts on the good of my truck and it was long gone. So with some help we welded old lug nuts on them and was able to get them off. Replacing with some regular lug nuts. I also found my drivers side tie rod is shot which I do have a brand new part sitting in the garage. It came in the kit with my lca's. So I guess I'll be doing that soon too.

Went to the junkyard and scored some rear FJ coils with the rubber isolator/bumpstop thingy for $50. They wanted $80 and tried to tell me that new ones from the dealer are $135. I told them I can buy a set off RockAuto for $43 and after trying to tell me to buy on there we agreed on $50. lol Dumbass salvage yard people around here!
Hopefully will be putting these on soon along with my new inner and outer tie rods and 3" lift spacer.

I'm sure it could be done. It would take a lot of calculations to get the mounts right, the right coil spring rates and lengths, and the right shocks, but I don't see why it couldn't be done with enough $$!

Yes, just like that!
We already know the spring rate on the rear coils of our truck, would it be different for a coilover? Guess I need to read up a little.

I'd almost think you'd want to do the dual rate style coilovers. Similar to the metaltech kit, but 2 different coils instead of just one
