T4R is NOT an OFF Road Vehicle!

So... first off, do you plan on having over an inch of standing water in the vehicle? A key's length is over an inch, there should never be that much water in the vehicle. As I said before, if you're in THAT deep of water, electronics are going to be only half the problems your running into.

The space above the connector is possibly for other junction connectors related to higher trim models. You have an SR5 which would not have as many modules and needs as say a Limited with RAS. Once again I will point out that the harness runs along the floor and can be a conduit for fluid as it is in ALL modern vehicles; of which can short out any number of modules if it gets into the junction block and/or common power sources.

Also, why is only your driver's side floorpan so badly rusted, are you purposefully dumping salt on it or something? I've seen what road salt does to vehicles and you should be seeing the same damage spread across the passenger side as well with the tunnel being fairly okay as the drivetrain takes the abuse of that.

Finally I am glad everything worked out for you in the end. Next time I would recommend you disconnect the battery before doing ANY washing of the vehicle interior and then letting it dry out properly before reassembly. It doesn't matter if its a 4Runner with a "low connector," Mercedes-Benz S Class, or a Dodge Neon; you're forcing water where its not supposed in a modern computer controlled vehicle and you're upset it has issues. That's unrealistic thinking, modern vehicles come with modern problems, dielectric grease won't stand up much against a pressure washer by the way.

Good post (as usual).

That's unrealistic thinking....

The accurate description is refreshing instead of a lazy reverse euphemism of the kind that regularly gets thrown around.

YES YES YES!!!! I Guess I needed a HUM-V huh?
I did look it up (after I broke my car) FREAKIN EXPENSIVE!
BUT!
Old HUM-V i can get $35000
I Bought my truck for THAT! (In 03)

SO YES DARNIT I WANT IT TO BE THE BEST OF THE BEST!
I saw 4Runner get whipped by Pathfinder on youtube.
NISSAN! I had 3 nissans ALL CRAP! and it whips my T4R in mud? Pathetic.

I can get a DAEWOO for $5k NEW or a Freakin FIAT UNO

I seen that video, only reason that pathfinder "beat" the T4R is driver ineptitude... Was it you??. O.o

I got 2 pages in when he "realized" that he put NOS Energy Drink in his bike... then I died laughing...

I don't care if its true or not... That made my day.

Actually it is there was another one too i cant find it. he did in fact damage the hell out of the bike

Another thing NEVER to do with a messed up ECM

So I thought I was smarter than a broken ECM:redbrick:
I figured that I can bypass the START DETECTION and ENGINE CRANKING HOLDING CIRCUIT
How?
By keeping key on Start and shorting the starter relay by hand...
Well it didn't work.
But, what did happen is: ECM decided to dump all the fuel into the engine.
Talk about flooding. Engine got locked up and would not crank.:lock1:
That was bad idea. :decision: Scared me to bone.:tape:
Got spark plugs out, cranked ok, but spewed gasoline everywhere. Good thing I was outside.

That may be, but the fact is that this car is for an average stupid, not a highly trained one. So, it should have at least had water enter inside and damage the ECM. That video is why I thought that 4Runner is not afraid of a little water on the inside. :crutch:

Yes, the whole thread is a JOKE...

and the OP has finally realized his FOLLY and joined in with the fun...

What bothers me is you looked at what you are showing in these pics and you thought: "It would be a good idea to pressure wash this".

Have you ever heard of wiping down with a damp towel?

In regards to "OFF Road" capability, owners are tasked with modifying their vehicles to stand up to specific use scenarios. You don't go into the dealer and demand 37" Thornbirds because you tried to go through 3' of mud and got stuck. You don't go in and hand the service advisor the keys and coordinates because you got stuck on a rock out in Moab.

When people traverse deep enough water to produce 1" standing depth in the floorboard, they prepare their vehicles for it. Relocate low-hanging modules (this would include the ECU), add a snorkel, etc.

If you want to be able to consistently hose off your floorboard, then relocate everything, seal it, and put down a nice big rubber mat. Go at it. If something else fries, then fix and seal that, and repeat until you are where you want to be. You got to pay to play. Pick yourself up after a fall. Insert any other random cliché.

Common sense should have prevailed here. By now hopefully you have realized that laughs, insults and general disbelief aside that you were totally in the wrong for your approach to your issues, from power washing the inside to posting a flame thread to Toyota about your 4Runner's shortcomings.

I'm rooting for you man. Be the first person to go from total nonsense to T4ROTM. The Future Is Now.

BUT, clearly they were wrong!

Yeah, I guess the engineers in Japan should have thought of that 1 guy who thought it would be a good idea to powerwash his interior with the battery still connected :nono:

My brain hurts because i read this entire thread. A couple things..
#1 its "Flash" you have to have the ECM flashed, not flushed.
#2 the pathfinder did not have anything on that 4runner, the tool driving the 4runner was clueless about how to drive a modern 4x4 vehicle.
#3 I have had one of my 4th gens up to the headlight in water, up Jeep eater (a trail at Barnwell Mountain that is notoriously hard) and the waterfall at Old Katempsi, I have ran (dragging frame) through a washout that nobody else would even try.... In conclusion, your off-road vehicle is clearly limited by your ability to drive (and apparently maintain) it.
#4 YOU POWER WASHED RIGHT NEXT TO THE PLUG!! Pulling a dumb stunt like that you should have had to pay double....the design flaw is your lack of good judgement.
#5 In the end I would have hoped you learned a lesson, however it seems that you feel the issue was in design and not execution, leaving me to believe you will end up doing the same thing to your new Daewoo.

BTW, I think you handled the criticism quite well for whatever that's worth

Sweet hot holy crap, that's awesome.

I remember seeing a similar thread on (I think) a Harley message board where a guy JB welded the oil drain plug on his Harley because it was leaking oil.

It took 4 or 5 pages for the people on the forum to realize they were being messed with.

I saw a thread on an Audi forum or something where a guy claimed to pour sand into his intake because he thought it would port the intake and exhaust manifolds, turned out to be the mods playing a joke

Thanks! With water and Computers I totally forgot FLASHED not FLUSHED!
But idea is the same though :guitar3:

OF COUSE I REALIZED MY MISTAKE! WASNT That obvious.
BUT Everyone is missing my point here.
While power washing may be extreme, 1 inch of WATER in a cabin of an off road vehicle is NOT! I can see DAEWOO failing with that NOT A FREAKIN 4Runner! And I refuse to agree with ANYONE here that Cars need to be prepared and stuff for occasional water that enters inside.
IT IS A DESIGN FLAW!!! :ak472: AND I DO BLAME TOYOTA FOR IT.
NOT only I BLAME for Connector location (just 2" higher would NOT have fried my and yours ECU)
BUT, That connector carries Hi Voltage Hi Current Wires next to Low voltage low current computer Data wires. STUPID!

I am looking through Wiring manual to see where these connections go.
I suffered for everyone here and I feel like a freakin Jesus :smokin:

So to recap: I Should have expected 4Runner to be a p***y and carefully wiped 10 years of dirt, dust and salt. I should Disconnect my battery before Entering High water that MAY (God Forbid) enter inside of my Paved road capable 4 by 4. And lastly INSTALL Windows 8.1 on my ECM So the whole hunk of metal Stinks. :whipping2

I AM CORRECT HERE and TOYOTA IS NOT!

:lookout:

MY STOCK CAR WILL NOW BE PREPARED FOR WATER IN CABIN AND YOURS NOT! :frisky:
