BUT Everyone is missing my point here.
While power washing may be extreme, 1 inch of WATER in a cabin of an off road vehicle is NOT! I can see DAEWOO failing with that NOT A FREAKIN 4Runner! And I refuse to agree with ANYONE here that Cars need to be prepared and stuff for occasional water that enters inside.
IT IS A DESIGN FLAW!!! :ak472: AND I DO BLAME TOYOTA FOR IT.
NOT only I BLAME for Connector location (just 2" higher would NOT have fried my and yours ECU)
BUT, That connector carries Hi Voltage Hi Current Wires next to Low voltage low current computer Data wires. STUPID!

I am looking through Wiring manual to see where these connections go.
I suffered for everyone here and I feel like a freakin Jesus :smokin:

So to recap: I Should have expected 4Runner to be a p***y and carefully wiped 10 years of dirt, dust and salt. I should Disconnect my battery before Entering High water that MAY (God Forbid) enter inside of my Paved road capable 4 by 4. And lastly INSTALL Windows 8.1 on my ECM So the whole hunk of metal Stinks. :whipping2

Fair enough, but what if you need to open your doors? And water is NOT too deep, but just deep enough to enter. In fact when you try to get out you tilt your ride and water enters? What then?

My decisions are based on assumptions that there are people (Like Women) who would flood the car. My ex-wife did. We had a 1991 Subaru Legacy, we had rain, too much rain. She fell into a ditch. Rear wheels were hanging in the air. Engine and front compartment flooded. BATTERY WAS STILL CONNECTED. Me and my friend pulled it out towed home and dried for a couple days. This is Wisconsin! So, yes there was salt and stuff. After few days It started back up. No issues whatSOever! I just needed to do an oil change.

You mean 4Runner is NOT like that? 1" of water kills the freakin ECM! What were fuses doing? Why are they there at all? What about electronic protection of the ECM!
If this was a HIGHLANDER I would agree its not an SUV its a freakin Camry with different body.
TOYOTA made crap car and charged me $36.000 for it. That is what I am FURIOUS ABOUT! :AK47:

I saw a thread on an Audi forum or something where a guy claimed to pour sand into his intake because he thought it would port the intake and exhaust manifolds, turned out to be the mods playing a joke :lol:

The sand was used in a steam engine locomotives, for something. I don't remember. Maybe his Audi was STEAM POWERED?

When I was at the junk yard I saw quiet a few late model Audis. Maybe there was some movement to kill engines on Audis? All bodies were ok.

Water and electricity is ok. PROVIDED that: Its a 12V system, NO SALT, NO Electronics (that directly contacts water) and Most importantly NO Data wires close to HI AMP Wires!
You don't even need a protection of any kind.

You can safely have an electric motor run under water!

BTW Your TOYOTA ECM on 4Runner does not even have a rubber seal on it! It's not sealed at all. Actually none of the modules are. That was also a surprise to me. :suspicious:

Dude, seriously... Man up, grow a pair and own up to the fact that you - YOU - did something very stupid and f***ed up your truck. Folks on here would have at least a modicum of respect for you if you did.

We in the northeast all have some sort of rust issue with our rigs. My DD (Honda Civic) lives it's life on the highway with that grime shit that PennDot sprays on its highways, yet I always try to find time during the winter to hose/pressure wash the chassis so it doesn't rust into oblivion................. so far, 7 years and no rust. Regarding the interior: I've never had to steam clean my carpets and they look brand new.

New ECM $1400 from Toyota. It's a money maker.

And yes The only reason apple has its battery internal is that it fries your Iphone. We accidentally washed my son's Sony Xperia in a pocket of his pants. Then took out battery and dried it. It works!

I drove a hummer H1 through 4.5-5 feet of standing water, and the water that rushed in the bottom of the door panels didn't even get high enough to touch the pedals or the heels of my shoes. I drove my Acura at stock height with a CAI through a 4 foot deep flooded out road in a hurricane, with water cascading over the hood and didn't get a single drop in my cabin, let alone damage any electrical, and my ECU is in the same place as it is on the 4Runner. Just sayin...

Honda pilot and Nissan pathfinder

When I was at the Junk yard there were 2003 Pilot and 2003 Pathfinder and I specifically looked whether this flaw was present in those cars. Well it wasn't.
I tore up both cars. I looked hard and found ALL connections at least 5-10 inches above floor level. This way if water enters it does not have a chance to do any damage.

Strange thing is that there were no 2003 4Runners. In fact, NO 4runners at all. I guess we love our trucks to much. I thought that I would have to Junk my car. Well I got it fixed, all myself. As I said before it's like a beautiful wife. You do forgive her more than she deserves. 4th Gen is Just too good looking of a car to junk.
