Great points Greg...always two sides to every story. I think it was smart to circumvent a possible shoot out between vendor/customer. Your points about knowing exactly what you're getting into prior to the sale can potentially save a heap of BS down the road.

If that post was truly a PSA about smart buying practices, the particular vendor's identity need not have been disclosed.

By calling out TAP, your post is a warning to others about dealing with TAP, endorsed with the imprimatur of a moderator.

If he hadn't been specific there would have been a lot more people complaining he was protecting the sponsor.

I called them out because if a vendor is being shady we should know. If a member is being a beyatch we should know that as well..... TAPs response was shakey at best, if I knew who the member was I'd bet that we could solve this in 10 minutes

It really isn't in either parties interest to post about it since third party companies were brought in (CC or Paypal). I wouldn't expect anything more than a generic statement from TAP and nothing from the member.

I suspect the only reason @1E posted is that he was being brought in, not by his choice other than being moderator.

Hope whatever happened over there is resolved, and won't come over here.

This is one of the many reasons I don't have PayPal or anything of that nature. I do transactions in person, whether it be cash in person or card(only at a store front business). I've been ripped off plenty of times ordering stuff online and it never shows or is the wrong thing/something missing. Call me old fashioned but I like product in hand before I give up money. My wife on the other hand lives on Amazon. The UPS driver shows up everyday at our house with something, sometime twice a day.

Not saying that's its Total Autos fault, more than likely just a confused buyer that refused to pay shipping back to the company.

I've never done business with them, but that's one of the biggest problems owning/running a business, customers always expect you to be wrong and wont except blame.

I've done business with them one time and my experience was excellent. Great pricing, and insanely fast shipping. No complaints here.

Your "PSA" is for people to be prepared for problems when ordering from TAP.

geez who fing cares? I would rather hear a vendor or a member is being shady. Why beat around the bush? I have done business with TAP successfully, very pleased but that doesnt mean they are above the law,.

Yes, TAP was named but the buyer was not. Neither one should have been named here in a public forum. It's a dispute between the buyer and seller. There is not enough info here for any of us to know who may be wrong or right. We don't even know what they bought so we can go check the ad ourselves.

I think TAP gave a good response on the first page. Enough said. This thread is inappropriate, unfair to the vendor and should be deleted.

And regarding my Amazon story on the first page, I just found out today they received my return and are also refunding the $6 shipping cost I paid to the vendor, so I'm only out the $3 or $4 I paid to mail it back.

We wont comment much on our TW status, its not really that important to us, but we do want to let you know that we just ran a successful ARB group buy on TW - the relationship is improving and we hope to be back on the site soon as a vendor as they have fixed some of their administrator issues.

I'm interested if the "big deal" was me... if so, get real. If not, no offense.

I was merely stating that TAP was no longer a vendor on TW. Didn't even mention that he was also blacklisted (supposedly) from a Socal club.... I didn't talk smack nor did pretend to talk details.

I like TAP, a few very pleasant interactions.


Good advice in the OP. Particularly when it comes to smaller local vendors that don't have huge internal ad agencies making up the adverts (who the hell that sells specialty auto parts can afford that anyway).

I have seen mistakes or what I thought were mistakes in advertising... and guess what... it happens, and guess what... a quick email and/or phone call often clears things up, hell I have even gotten a better deal by actually speaking to someone in person.

Besides the usual simple misunderstanding often seems someone is trying to pull a fast one, most often it appears to be the buyer :
