Tacoma Suspension Swap

2003, V8, 4x4. I lost about a half inch of lift after putting on MetalTech sliders (damn they're heavy) and a full aluminum RCI skidplate kit. Pics will be forthcoming.

Good to know. One last question I should have asked previous, what did you do for rear springs?

I haven't done anything for rear springs yet. I am perfectly level and my rear suspension doesn't feel worn at all. The Tacoma suspension I bought came with rear shocks, so I picked up the correct bushings, and I may just leave it as is. If I feel like the rear needs any attention, I will just pick up some FJ springs and call it good. I didn't want much lift in the first place, so an inch or so of lift in the rear would suit me fine.

So I finally finished mine, non TRD taco springs on 5100's set at 1.75. 1" spacer with FJ springs rear. It sits just a tad front end high right now but I'm guessing it will settle. Maybe .5"
I haven't measured yet but I'm pretty sure I got over 3" front lift with this combo. Ride is a bit stiff though and I'm wondering if the bilstein will break in or if 1.75" is just too much preload on these springs.
I may end up going down to .85" if the ride doesn't improve in a few thousand miles. Overall I'm happy with the stance though.

Quick follow up. I was planning to lower the 5100's down to .85 and add a 1/4 spacer to stay close to the current front end height because my small bump compliance was awful. I may still do that as I'm about 1/2" nose high with a 1" spacer in back.
In the meantime I replaced my Toyo AT 2's with Firestone Destination AT's and the ride improvement was crazy dramatic. So smooth with better bump absorption. My Toyo's still have 10K left on them but I had a screw and sidewall gash so I replaced them at ~40K.
All I can say is I will never buy Toyo AT 2's every again. Next set will either be Destination AT's again or Copper AT3's. My MPG looks to have improved by about .5 mpg as well.

I need some advice so I don't lift too high.

Current setup: 04' v6 4wd sport. 167k w/ stock xreas setup. daystar 2.5/1.5.

Last weekend I bought all 4 fj springs/coils, and 2013 tacoma TRD 4x4 suspension. I'd like to get somewhere around a 3/2 lift. My plan was tacoma struts up front, with fj springs in the back, but now I'm thinking that'll push me way over. (estimating 1"-1.5" from taco suspension) I'm not ready to buy new UCA's or do any other suspension mods right now.

Am I better off switching the daystar for smaller spacers? Or switching the front trd coils to the fj coils? Or...other ideas?

EDIT: Finally found some talk about this somewhere in the middle of this thread. They said it worked out fine, though numbers-wise I could get 3.5 - 4" up front and 2 - 2.5" in back, which might be a problem. I guess I'll see how it goes.

Swapping bushings on rear shocks, 5 min job

Used 19mm and 27mm socket (I didn't have 26mm but 27mm works OK)

The ES bushings don't appear to be 100% symmetrical, is this on purpose and does it matter?

Anybody can tell which is left and which is right? I'm thinking the one with the yellow dot is the driver side strut but not 100% sure.

Based on the FJ color codes, I believe that is correct. You may have to peek under a tacoma to verify, that's the only way to know for sure.

Hey guys I have a question. I found a good deal on some 2014 Tacoma TRD struts w/less than 5k miles, but they kept their original coils. I'm curious is it worth it to buy these and then buy the toytec/eibach front coils to put on them? If so, any idea how much lift that would net? And what else would I need to mount the coils on the taco bilsteins? Thanks for the help!

Guys can someone tell me which is the passenger and which is the driver side spring? Got these from a 2015 trd sport with less than 5k miles on it.

My plan is to keep my spacers and add these. Should give me another 1" of lift.
Since I have UCAs should be fine as long as the CVs look good.

I'm finally going to have time to do the swap this weekend. I went out to the box of parts yesterday and noticed that the seller put in the UCAs from the Tacoma TRD also. This begs the question... Should I install those as well? Any benefits?

They would have lower miles on the bushings?

Remember, although the UCAs are supposed to be the same as the 4runner ones, the tacoma UCAs use an ever so slightly smaller ball joint for whatever reason than the 4runner/FJ UCAs.

But they wouldn't really allow more lift, right? I assume I'd have to go straight to aftermarket UCAs for that.

Correct, from my understanding the taco UCAs will allow for the same amount of lift as the 4runner/FJ ones, so you would need aftermarket UCAs for additional lift.

I will have a full icon stage 1 kit with Camburg BJ UCAs for sale here around the middle of Jan if you are interested...

Let us know how this goes, I am going to be doing the same in the near future. Going with Tacom shocks, spring and UCAs.

I am pretty sure everything will bolt up fine, good luck

I'll post after. I'm really afraid of over-lifting with the Tacoma swap and the daystar 2.5/1.5 on stock UCAs, but ... We'll see.

Might be pushing the limits with those spacers, I am just installing the stock Tacoma shocks and UCAs.
