Tacoma Suspension Swap

Might be pushing the limits with those spacers, I am just installing the stock Tacoma shocks and UCAs.

Yeah, I might have to order 1-1.5" spacers for the front instead. I want to stay close to the same height, but who knows what'll happen. Some people in here say they got like 4" w/ spacers, and some just over 3". I don't know.

I'll post after. I'm really afraid of over-lifting with the Tacoma swap and the daystar 2.5/1.5 on stock UCAs, but ... We'll see.

For what it's worth, I ended up getting right at 2.5 inches of lift with the Tacoma springs and half inch Toytec aluminum spacers. The caster settings were maxed out at 2.7 degrees on both sides with the stock UCA's.

Wow that's way more than others have reported. I have aftermarket UCAs and was hoping to add Tacoma TRD springs to my 2.5 daystar spacers for 3.25-3.5" of total lift but now I'm not so sure...

the trd tacoma coils will give 1-1.25 inches of lift from what i have seen. i got just over an inch with my 5100's and trd off road coils. just remember there are trd sport and trd off road coils, they are not the same

What is the difference between the two? I have TRD sport springs? Less lift than TRD off road?

trd off road are progressive springs where the sport springs are not.

That's pretty much it. The Sport/SR5 springs I used are not the progressive rate springs. It's pretty easy to tell which is which since the Off Road springs have a brown plastic insulator near the top of the spring and the top few coils are much closer together. Here is a picture of mine with the Camburg ball joint control arms.

Thanks. I'm just having a hard time getting consistent measurements. I certainly don't want to end up lower than the 2.5 spacer I have now. I really want to go 3" or even a little more.

Considering the sport springs are not progressive they probably provide a little more lift than the OR springs. So a 1.5" spacer seems like it should net me 3" based on the avg 1.5" lift the taco spring give.

All done finally. (Partial cross post)

The bushings. I used a carriage bolt and two sockets (without a vice mount) for a while. Then I got impatient and frustrated and started hammering the thing. Hammering was fast and easy. Then I pushed the new bushings in by hand most of the way, and a few taps from a rubber mallet. I also managed to get one bushing stuck in a socket for good.

So you kept the daystar spacers on all the way around with the swap?

I made the mistake of removing the front spacers. So I am butt high... However if I had kept the 2.5 front daystar spacer I would never have fit in the garage. Sooooo I got some 1" toltec spacers I am going to add to help level it out.

Well, I originally bought the Daystar 2" spacer (1" size) and was planning to replace the fronts with them, but decided to leave the 2.5" on after all. Given the before and after lift heights, I'm glad I did or I would have been butt high also.

I thought it was going to be very nose high even with the 2" spacer, but I was clearly wrong. I'm still butt high with the 2.5" on there. I'm debating taking the rear 1.5" spacer out actually.

Yeah. I really could keep my daystar up front to get level but then I would have to remove my light bar to fit in the garage. So I'm hoping the 1" spacer will make me happy.

After about a week of driving, I've noticed that the ride is actually "floaty" and less firm than my XREAS was. Granted, my XREAS system wasn't dead yet, but I figured from what everyone was saying in this thread that it would at least somewhat as firm as the XREAS.

Does that sound off? Anyone else have similar experiences?

So is the consensus that everyone is getting 1-1.5" of lift from the tacoma TRD coils? Not the progressive ones. I have a set coming to replace my wore out and destroyed stock coils and I'm wondering where to if setting my bilsteins on the top perch will hurt anything. I have 3" lift now, so just over 3 wouldn't hurt.

Anyone know the color code on the Tacoma TRD coils? I think one is slightly taller, but wanted to make sure.

I had a similar experience when I first drove it after the swap. I later went out on some forest roads to bounce around and it felt much better there vs. XREAS. I don't know if the suspension settled or something, but it felt similar to XREAS once I was back on paved roads. Maybe I just got used to it?

Same here. I haven't taken it off road yet, but it's been a while now and I think it's settled. It feels much better than it did at first.
