Tacoma Suspension Swap

Hey guys new here... just bought a 2003 limited no xreas. I also purchased a complete trd tacoma suspension to put on it. At the start of this thread someone mentioned a bushing swap in the rear. Is that a part you buy or do you remove it from the 4runner parts? Also, I was going to do a daystar 1.5/2.5 spacer lift but after reading I m not sure what spacer sizes I would need to use in combination with the tacoma trd setup. Any help, advice or input would be awesome. I only know enough to be dangerous

Is yours 4x4 and v6 or v8? The tacoma set up with the Daystar 2.5/1.5 will probably be nose high and will definitely max out your upper control arms which will mess with your alignment.

How much overall lift are you wanting to gain?
 
I got some front struts off my trd 05 tacoma sport with a daystar leveling kit already pressed on for sale if somebody wants ? Its the 1.5 spacer lift.

My t4r is a v8 4wd. I figured the 1.5/2.5 wouldn't work together with the trd setup. I have a brand new set of 255/75/17 duratracs that I want to put on some fuel 17x8.5 wheels. I like the more aggressive look of the 1.25 spacers but I wanted to achieve the same look with wheel offset. I ordered +14 but I think I should have bought -5 or -6 can't recall for sure which it was. I don't do any heavy off road stuff so that's not needed to factor in. But I do want level not a fan of rake. Would fj rear springs in back and taco up front give me a mild level lift?

i think you would be looking at about 1-1.5 in the front and .5 to 1 in the rear if im not wrong
 
Direct swap to the 4th gen runner, with some added lift too. Can't remember how much. I almost ran them. Bought a set and then found a deal on some OME 884s that I couldn't pass up.
 
Wow, this is so awesome, timing couldn't be better on this thread for me. I have a 2006 4R SE V6 4x4 with a worn out XREAS after 140000 miles that I am replacing. I was thinking of going stock SR5 shocks and keeping the springs for budget reasons but just came across a full set from a 2014 Tacoma TRD V6 4x4 Sport for cheap. I would love to hear more about the swap. Unfortunately for me I am in Minneapolis and the only people that will touch the XREAS want way to much in labor for the swap. So I am trying to get as much info I can and try to find someone to do this. So far I get that I will need to replace the rear shock bushings and pick up some FJ rear coils, then get an alignment. That should be pretty level correct? Anyone have a place for the bushings? What year FJ coils would match best with 2014 Tacoma front strut setup? I will also replace my front sway bar bushings with poly ones to help in the corners. I can't tell you guys how happy this forum has made me. Local Toyota dealerships and auto shops have had me really depressed about my suspension.

I found the part at a local parts house. O'reilly's and Autozone should be able to order them too. Energy Suspension part # 9.8108G. Should be around $5-$10.

Moogs rear FJ coils won't fit into the groove on the axle. I should know because I took em off after I bought it and after I googled a little more and there was other members with the same problem. So I ended up with oem FJ coils. If I had to do it again I would skip the rear FJ because there was negligible difference in height and ride. Better to get rear spacers and set the Tacoma/ FJ front coils @1.75 for level look or stay with stock rears with Tacoma/FJ front set @.85 for a level look. I am currently @FJ rears with spacers and Taco coils on front [email protected]. Gives me a stock rake look which is better for loading cargos and headlight issues as the front lift a bit with cargo in the rear. Good luck!!

Good to know that for sure. I just purchased front struts and rear shocks from a 2014 TRD 4x4 sport Tacoma with very low miles today and I may have found some 2010 FJ rear springs if they aren't sold yet, man those things go fast. I just talked to a shop that can do the install for $500 which includes an alignment so I think I am there. I guess I won't really know how level she'll be until it's all done. Should I wait for 2014 FJ rear springs so it's level?

If you set the front Taco @.85 you'll be level. With the FJ rear coil you'll see very minimal lift so don't get too caught up with the FJs. But if they're cheap go for it. Hehe. Hope that helps. And not a bad price for labor and alignment. It's probably best to get everything in order and then have the alignment done. :drum:

I am a little confused by this. I didn't think the Tacoma front struts were adjustable.
 
The OEM shocks are not adjustable, it's only the aftermarket Bilstein 5100's that are adjustable. You should get 1.5"-2" lift in the front with that setup, and 1/4"-1/2" rear. It should be pretty level with that setup.

Thank you ARK_SWAMP_RIDER, that is a load off. Should be getting everything installed next week. I'll let you know how it goes. Thanks for all of your great info on here.
