Tail Gate Window 95 4 Runner

This is very hard to describe if you haven't had to deal with this. If you have, I am sure you will know what I am talking about. This is my second 95 4 Runner and I had the same problem with the first one. I don't remember how I fixed it the first time, maybe you can help. There is a clamp with a channel on both sides of the bottom of the rear tail gate window. There are arms that are attached to this clamp which raise and lower the window.

These clamps are fitted or crimped onto the bottom of the glass. And they tend to rust out rendering the window unable to go up or down on the side that has the rust.

Part of the clamp with the channel is rusted but still firmly attached to the glass. Some how I have to get that clamp off without cracking the glass. I don't know how to get that part off. Anybody been here?

Do you have the rear window removed from the tailgate? Try heating the "clamped" part with a heat gun and slowly work the glass out of the channel.
