Tailpipe Mod Complete! (4th gen)

Rice--- What is the diameter of your tailpipe? It looks much bigger than CJ's.

CJ--- Why didn't you go with bigger diameter pipe? Your tailpipe reminds me fo the puny tailpipes that were on the prior generation Xterra!

It's a little the photo/lighting etc. I's actually a touch larger than the OE tailpipe. I didn't go for a big pipe because past experience has taught me that leads to resonating. Unfortunately the 'buzz' usually occurs at cruise rpm. Admittedly it lacks visual machismo but the lady friend is happy. When she's happy all is good

i have a custom 3 inch exhaust, with a cherrybomb vortex, model 88105 , that is center offest, 3inch in and out. had it for a long time now, i think i had it on febuary 08.

It may be bigger than the stock exhaust system itself, but it surely looks smaller than the stock pipe that was coming out of the resonator. I never measured it, but I'm pretty sure the stock tailpipe (off the resonator) is significantly larger than the stock exhaust system diameter.

Thanks to this thread and the others like this one I decided to do this mod. :biggrin2: Super happy with it!! I don't notice any sound difference but no smells driving through town with the back window down! Here are a few more pictures of the mod.

anyone know how far was the 3rd gen tail pipe was from the wheel? so far from looking at these pics , from what i remember its looking close to it, or maybe my exhaust look way different/ off.

i wanna do this but the only pre bent pipes i can find are at advance auto parts and they are like ribbed and look bad. where else could i find a pre bent without the ribs? thanks

Any muffler shop can mandrel bend a pipe for you.

Should be $55-$80 depending where you are...

True. If you have access to a welder then you're set. You'll need some rod too to fab the support on to the pipe. My tailpipe is supported off of the hanger that originally supported the resonator.

If you have access to a welder go for it.

ahhh. yea my buddy has a welder and sawsall so he can do it for me for like 15 bucks haha. i might see if he is not to busy. ill definately weld a stainless tip on too if i do it. i have about had it with the sulfer and whenever ppl are in my car its really funny when it comes in hahah.

Had mine pointed back a little further and spray painted black. Again, very happy with the results. It did set me back a bill, but that's the price of labor in NY.

Correct, slightly different oder, much less noticable then before. I guess if the tip exists out further you can elimate the smell even more.

IMO, it may of had better results if u had it angle out tothe side like cj3flyer s. urs goes towards the rear more & is more straight than side exit.

I haven't paid any attention to the 3rds but I have been eyeballing the current Taco tailpipe. I think that'd be the way to do this with the ultimate in "factory" look. I'm sure some exhaust shop somewhere has one laying in the scrap pile.
