talk to me about quickjack for 5th gen 4runners

i have been looking at quickjacks for many years.

more often than not, the past year, as ive been getting to work on the cars and 4runner in the past year.

i keep walking away from it and then walking back to the quickjacks.

i need to either buy one or walk away for a year, as i have way too many other projects to figure out..

if you all could talk to me about quickjacks, likes/ dislikes within the context of the below questions.. much appreciated.

questions, this is the easiest one:

5000 or 7000 model?: having a trail, i have 350lbs of OEM spec headroom before hitting 5k lb rating and a few mods will get a trail 4runner owner there pretty quick.
the issue with the 7000 model is not the cost but the weight of the units, lifting 100lbs pieces is not the easiest way to start auto work.
but i probably answered my own question, which is 7000 model is the way to go and get some exercise with the 100lb pieces in this model??

2nd question: pinch weld blocks or truck/ suv adapters?
if truck/ suv adapters, where would you position the adapters, for pinch welds?? there is no pinch weld groove?

3rd question: for either PW blocks or the truck/ suv adapters, how much incremental height is the roof rails getting raised in the highest position?

i have a standard height garage (no high lift), so the garage door setup. the max height of clearance i have is about 17-19" before the 4runner roof would touch the garage door opener motor. (i cant be the only person with this type of garage door setup?), is this enough lifting clearance?

if not, i could use outside on the driveway (again lifting 100lb pieces)

Get the 7000 and suv blocks - I’ve had mine for about a year now and am totally delighted with it. The 100lbs is not an issue as you never pick it up - just rolls on the wheels on the end. You don’t need the pinch weld blocks as it is better just to cut a slot in a hockey puck and save the money if you need it for a vehicle with no frame rails You use frame rail on 4Runner. I have no use for the plastic blocks it comes with as if you try and stack these on the suv blocks it wobbles too much.

Anyway I do all my own maintenance and the Jack will make it so easy as I get older. Best bit is greasing the prop shaft as everything just rotated and turns a fussy job into less than 5 minutes

are you using the wall mount hooks? i have a driveway where i have to turn into my garage ... so not feasible for me to leave the quickjacks in my parking bay

Yes - truck has 3” lift as well - no way it works in my garage sorry to say. No hooks as I have the 2 ramps wedges safely in a convenient corner.

Biggest problem you’ll have is getting sucked into helping buddies and neighbours...

I've looked at them a lot of times as well. Originally was planning to get one but have found out they don't work well for one of my other cars so decided against it.

My only advice would be to check that it works for all/most of your cars before jumping in.

They seem to be well-liked by those that have them.

I’ve used mine on F-150, Tucson, CR-V, Tacoma and Lexus NX as well - so pretty versatile I think

5000 or 7000 model?: I would vote for the 7000 model. It's the one I've got my eye on, just because I'd rather have the capacity, and not cut it short.

2nd question: I like SimonPK's answer for this one.

You're not the only one with a garage door in the way. My solution for this will cost me money. I am blessed with a higher ceiling that is about 2' above the garage door, so I'm planning on either changing my garage door track/opener to a high lift to run it up to the ceiling, or to a wall mount opener to gain clearance in the center of the garage. So what that means is that my lift will cost about double whatever it costs because of the garage work. I have found that about 75% of the time, I don't want to be outside working because I'm doing it when it's too hot/too cold/too dark/don't want to show my neighbors I know how to do stuff.
I've also looked at the MaxJax. I used to work with a guy that had either bought a set of them, or was thinking about it. But that option would definitely need to be in the garage. The advantage to the quickjacks are their portability.

yup..this is obviously a common issue.. the height issue restricting usage in garage for common / standard garage door setups.

i also have higher ceilings in my garage.. probably 14 feet..but dealing with the standard garage door height and the garage door opener height limitations.

whereas i briefly thought about changing out the garage door opener..realistically that is not in my 1 year project plan.

thats a whole lot of work to do, prior to starting to use the quickjacks and a high commitment level to accomodate usage in the garage.

if i do buy, plan is to buy, try /use...i may be able to use the quickjack with the 4r in the lowest height setting (will have to try it to find out for sure).

really, if the lowest height level gets the 4r tires off the ground and doesn't have the 4r touching my garage door motor, that will be sufficient for me at this time.

changing out garage door opener can always be a phase 2, if required, down the road.

I've been wanting these as well, but the cost plus the 100 pound weight is what has deterred me from making the jump.

if i had these, these would definitely need to be vertically wall stored, as i have zero spare floorspace in my garage (i cant be the only one of us with this zero spare garage floorspace available issue either..lol)

Yes - vertically stored on the wheels and strapped to my tool chest - no way it can fall over. Honestly I was just as sceptical about the 100lb weight of each ramp as everyone else before I got these from Costco. BUT as you are never picking them up and lifting them it does not matter at all - no need to worry about that. Takes me about 10 minutes to get everything out the garage, get jacks in right place, do my safety checks, give the truck a good hard shove to make sure it doesn’t even wobble a bit - it never does! And then start work.

I’ve just ordered a cat back exhaust and will post some more images when I fit that in a few weeks

BTW I am almost 60, have very little upper body strength - I am a distance runner not a body builder and also have bad rotator cuff - so what I am saying is it’s all about technique not strength to use these ramps!!

Yes the home Depot price don’t include the truck risers and wall hooks the best value is the Costco one but I will still wait for a better deal thanks
