tapping into wiring harness for aftermarket head unit?

I plan to install a Subaru gauge pack/field monitor unit (FMU) into my 4Runner at the same time I replace the factory oem double DIN stereo with a new Alpine single DIN head unit.

For the Subaru FMU, I need constant +12VDC power, switched (accessory/ignition) power, illumination and ground... So can I simply tap into the corresponding 4 wires from the Alpine wiring harness?

Or is there reason I should avoid tapping into the Alpine wiring harness for these 4 wires and look elsewhere?

looks like the OEM gauge pack that HiLux Surfs came with. I loved mine.

Anyway, I would tap into other sources. I can't imagine it drawing much, but still. What gen 4R do you have?

I have a third generation 4Runner (1996).
The Subaru gauge pack/FMU is essentially the same as the Hilux Surf unit, but in standard rather than metric units ....
I will look into other sources to tap into ....

When I saw the pics to the subi FMU, I was FLOORED. Anyway, good luck and post pictures when your done!!

I've decided to add a Blue Sea fuse box and only use the Add-a-Fuse in the interior fuse panel to trigger the relay powering that Blue Sea fuse block for all my added accessories...
