Went in to test drive a '16 4Runner recently. Found it on their website, confirmed it was there and booked an appointment.

The 4Runner at the dealership was actually in a different color...a much less popular color. Oops they said; we goofed up. Interestingly, the 4Runner is still listed on their website incorrectly...

I had an issue with them also.

Walked in with a pre approved check up to $60,000. Told the Sales Manager that I wanted to special order a 2014 Runner. They said that I needed to give them a credit card to check my credit, and that they probably couldn't order one special. So why do you need to have my credit card to check my credit when I have a check in hand from U.S.A.A. I asked? He said that the check looked fake. I said go ahead and call them. Meanwhile I pulled up my U.S.A.A page on my phone, and he said he didn't believe me. He then said he didn't have time because it was busy. Screw em' I went to Valentis who has awesome customer service and was more than happy to take my money.

Was the check fake? I've never heard of a pre-approved check.

Why go in with a check for more than the purchase price of a vehicle? Were you looking to get the 4Runner and cash from the dealer in exchange for the check?

Even if your check was legit, you can't blame them for thinking it sounds fishy...people just don't typically buy cars this way.
