By the way sorry not to jack your thread but since it IS tax season and i know a lot of students are on this forum, but i just did my taxes and im getting alot more back then i thought, just for being a student. So if you guys are claiming yourselves, and are on your own, etc. Obama has passed some kind of new tax "hook up" to where you can get up to $2500 in extra refunds on top of what you paid for your job. Im not sure on the limitations if your parents still claim you or what but go in and check it out! My tax guy at HRblock said you didn't even have a job to qualify for this so, extra money to save! thought id share that everyone!

Not that it's not good on an individual basis for you and other students and congrats on the extra dough, but this is a prime example of why people like me can't stand that ****ing idiot. We are in huge debt that's growing everyday at a rate that no generation has ever even dreamed of, nor does anyone have any viable plan laid out to fix it - except to double it because somehow that's going to reduce it in the long run (WTF?). But somehow, even though we don't have money for any other sh*t in this nation, Obama finds millions of extra dollars to give to people that wouldn't even think or consider that it's coming to them otherwise. Giving free money out on a gigantic scale to people who are going to most likely use it on booze and leisure. Sounds like he knows what he's doing. Who am I to question it? Oh yeah, I'm an American taxpayer that's all.

Glad to see that crappy governments are not just limited to Canada! Sorry to hear about your country's monetary whoes.....Our current Government, has decided to Harmonize 2 taxes into one. Meaning, Goods and services that we were once only taxed on by one tax, we are now paying both! Basically adds about $50.00 per month on my Utility bill! I'll give him credit though, he's trying to reduce our debt, but it's also making all the little people pay, instead of the big businesses and people in the higher tax brackets that could pay a little more.

Now that I got that off my chest.....I'd do the lift, tires and tranny cooler! I'm stuck using my refund money this year (should I even get one) to put towards new shingles on my house. (not nearly as fun as buying something for my truck!) I'm hoping that once I get that money saved up, I can get my front bumper replaced, new Tire and Spare rim for my Tire carrier, and maybe even some updated tail lights for the rear!

I think I'm going to stick with my tires until they need to be replaced. Thats why i only want to do a mild lift.

haha no your totally right! Im greatful for the extra funds and as much as i wish I could dump it all on my truck Im going to use it to pay off some debt and use the rest for school but your right! i bet probably 80% of these students who get it are going to think becuase they have this extra money they can go buy crap that they dont need or they cant afford. Im not sure if he wants us to spend the extra money to help the recession? I just dont see how that helps cause its someones money and its basicly burning the candle from both ends.

Im an American tax payer too and i agree that it does seem cruel cause it doesnt seem to be helping the economy; it only helps the individual if they use it right! Anyway i could go on about it too and i dont want to jack the thread, sorry Nick

As much as I'm happy to be the recipient of said 4x4 parts and beer, you have to understand that essentially, that money could (and should) have been used for more important things (paying off our debt).
But, then again, I do like beer :bigok:

Touche my devil advocate internet friend! That's a good point, but I do see 2 things wrong with the idea in general. Most kids (I agree with GottaBeTRD, probably about 80%) will blow the $$ instead of investing or paying off debt. And the other problem is apparently we still haven't learned that the Bush stimulus didn't help.

Haha I don't really agree with it either , we need less spending and that scalpel obama was talking about during the elections , he needs to man the heck up and make people cry , hate to say it but it's fact , fire loads of government employees and consolidate services , crack down on immigration which drains every facet of our society and resources , sure people will cry but the country would be better for it , I have no problem bringing the immigrants back but they must be documented and pay taxes , I don't think people realize how much of our resources are stolen...

its called the American Opportunity Credit. Just as long as you were enrolled in school and paying for school last year you should qualify. When did you file? it just got released a couple days ago.

Just make sure when your filing your counting your books, and lab fees, or if you bought a computer. This is everything they told me at HR Block so hopefully its legit! Im still blown away but i duno they had something like this last year to where i got almost the same amount as this year. its crazy!
