TCMach's Build Thread

When I get to CO maybe I can talk you into helping me rebuild my sway-a-way co's ;)

Sucks to hear about the tire carrier.. I dread doing the same thing to mine all the time.

Haha if they are anything like my Kings I would help out. The second coilover took me 10 minutes start to finish. Hardest issue for me was finding somebody to charge them. Ended up having to drive out to Windsor to get it done

I'm surprised you haven't with that big 35 back there. Then again I've only hit it when Ive been in Moab. So who knows

I'm sure they're pretty similar. Will have to find a place to get them charged, hopefully in southern CO, where I'll likely be moving to.

I've been close. My rotopax can is hard as hell to remove cus I bent the bolt connected to the locking mechanism that holds it down. It's a pita to get on/off now lol. But that doesn't beat what you did, by far..

That crack was the first time I have ever hit my spare on my Savage swingout. Didn't hit anywhere close to as hard as yours though.

I thought I would be mad. But I wasnt. As far as body damage goes its very minor, and I knew it was an issue and I didnt fix it so I can only blame myself. Plus its going to light my fire enough to hack it up and fix it. I think I might have to start bare. Not only is that mounting bracket bent backwards but its also buckled a bit right on that lower bolt. I doubt I'll be able to bend it back and I currently have to open my swingout way farther for the hatch to clear the tire. Looks like me and the angle grinder are going to become good friends

You've got a positive attitude about it, and I respect that. I'm excited to see what you come up with.

Your comment has made me curious to see what trail/obstacle you guys were on when this happened.

Hey atleast I have an excuse to hack up my bumper now. Hahaha

Yea it was pretty rough. I just saw the video for the first time. It bent that thing like it was made of plastic haha.

Love your set up man. Getting coilovers soon. Do you like yours?
I love them dude. I've pretty much only had them on for moab but so far they're great. Desert sandy sections are a lot more fun I'll tell you that much

I mean I went to moab to wheel. A little body damage won't dampen my spirit. Honestly it was on seven mile rim. Easy trail but we took all the optional big stuff. This was just a notch similar to that big one on Kane creek but not as tall but more narrow. We all did it for whatever reason and we all drug our bumpers, spares, or hitches.

I think the entire trip was elevated due to the fact that if you hesitated to do an obstacle....

A guy named Tracy, who was on his first wheeling trip ever and driving a very lightly modified 4th gen....

Would do it...

then make a comment on his vs. your dick size.

Seriously had a blast dudes!

So here is the video of me bending the hell out the CBI carrier. I would say watch for the bend when I come up but I'm pretty sure you'll be able to see it.

Man seeing it on video its crazy how much it deflected. Looked like the upright supports were made of twist ties or something.

Wow, that moved a lot. Sucks that it broke, but I'm sure you'll come up with something sweet to replace it.

How's the WMW rack coming along?

well in all fairness you did hit it kinda hard, but yeah i think even with a slower and less forceful impact it still would have bent even if you just crawled through that.

i have never dragged my tire or stood my runner up on end to where the rear tire was touching the ground. the closest i have come is climbing a waterfall last summer/fall with it and i buried passenger corner of the bumper in the mud. idk, id probably suggest that the tire be raised a little for off road trips, i mean that is what all the holes are for back there, -adjustment. and when you consider the weight of the vehicle and the forces applied even when crawling at some point something has to give.

rig looks good, love seeing the pics and wheeling, makes me miss it dearly. but for now im gonna have to live vicariously through you guys

Hey man, could you do me a big favor when you get a chance? Could you tell me how many threads you currently have showing on your Kings and the 700lb springs on drivers and passenger?

Thanks in advance!

Had a great time with you guys!! Thanks for sticking with me even after I broke the first 1/4 mile. Not to mention I learned quick removal of rear seat bar. It sure was a challenge getting the two non 3rd gen rigs through but the guys drove like champs.
Sorry to see that damage happen to your rear hatch. You probably said but did anyone else with rear swing go through unscathed. It's inevitable with some lines we take that our swing away is going to get exposed to this. Plain and simple why I opted against first hole in Kane's but I'd probably been fine.

It's definitely tweaked, look at the pictures a page or so back.

Thanks for the compliments and condolences guys. Yea it deflected quite a bit. It definitely wasn't a light hit but that isnt really where my frustration stems from. Everybody else with a swingout went through unscathed even though they all drug their tires. From my memory Kyle (shrockworks rear) went through with a similar impact to mine. Andrew's rig (savage rear) went through a little easier with the skinny tire on the back. Its also the extent of what bent that makes me want to change it up. Its not just the carrier piece, its the whole swing out apart form the main beam. If i had run the line that Chris is talking about on Kane Creek I would have embedded it in the rear hatch most likely. Not blaming CBI at all, its not like they said their bumper can handle landing on the spare tire mount but for the wheeling I am doing and plan on doing in the future this design doesn't seem the best.

cdrewferd the rack just sitting around at the moment, the bottom is all welded up and the top is ready to be finished, then its just connecting the two. I started to work on it and then got caught up in school and then it was cold as hell and I just didn't feel like welding haha. Luckily now its warming up so I'll actually get some work done on it.

TBuzz I had a great time too. It was nice having somebody who had been there before to give us some insight onto the trail too. How did the rig drive on the highway with no sway bars?

I sure will but you'll have to wait until Sunday. Currently in Georgia visiting the fam and the runner is at the denver airport haha. I measured mine with inches and I think I was at around 1.25" on the drivers side and just under an 1" on the passenger.

Moab pics are now available on this thread http://www.toyota-4runner.org/off-roading/191995-spring-break-2015-moab.html

Here are a couple of my favorites.

This was on Kane Creek which was probably my favorite trail of all time.

little update. If you've read our Moab thread you know that one guy who was with us bent his spindle on Wipeout Hill. I went up the same obstacle right before him and another half a foot to the passenger side and it would have been me with the busted spindle. So enter Total Chaos spindle gussets. Cheap insurance in my opinion.

Apparently I have no pictures of them before they were welded on so here goes the finished pictures.

I slightly reformed the brake line and bent the bracket so the lower opening that used to hold the ABS clip is now how the hardline is mounted. Passenger side ABS line is held on with a little bailing wire though one of the holes in the gusset, drivers sensor doesnt exist because I ripped it in half pulling the spindles :D
