What did it cost you to have those tig welded on?

what you dont believe those are my welds??

Actually I have a buddy I go to school with who has been TIG certified for 8 years and he needed a project for a metal fabrication class. I got free welds and he got a 100% on his fabrication final. Took him about three hours if you want a time estimate.

Haha well you got awfully lucky there. I'm not paying a TIG welder for 3 hours of work.That would be like 10 times the cost of the gussets themselves hahaha. I think I'll stick to MIG welding it myself.

Oh i know. I wouldn't be worried about MIG welding them. Some of the gaps are big enough that its much easier to MIG and also you have to MIG the bottom of the gusset because you cant fit a TIG in there

So here is the video of me bending the hell out the CBI carrier. I would say watch for the bend when I come up but I'm pretty sure you'll be able to see it.

Not sure how I have never seen this... Makes a lump form in the back of my throat.

In my more "expedition" style outings I do not ever see myself doing anything too crazy but damn... That'd ruin a trip for me.

Haha its hard to be anything but happy when your in a place as nice as Moab but it definitely was a bummer. The one thing that kinda took the edge off was that it isnt the first time I've drug the spare or come close to dragging it. Heck on Kane Creek I bypassed an obstacle [MENTION=94888]EatonKyleH[/MENTION] went through because I saw his spare drag and I knew I would have blown my back window out. All in all they are minor dents and it lit a fire under my ass to fix the damn thing.

Just now watching the video too. Yea, I'll be sure to stay out of dips like that. Hell, I'll take my damn spare tire off if an obstacle like that is my only path. Even worse that I have a 35 back there so I'm more prone to hitting shit lol

Oh yea, gusseted spindle arms look good. I can't imagine bending or breaking one of those. I've been in some gnarly spots before, you must really be in a bind or come down with some force to do that kind of damage. Gusset is good reassurance though and it looks pretty badass too :thumb:

Yea. That 35 is a big anchor off the back. that notch was optional but I'm not one to bypass if I don't have to. Bending it was inevitable in the future. I wish I hadn't dented the tailgate but it happens. Window still rolls down

I have spare spindles. Snagged a set for a good price when I was redoing front wheel bearings so all I had to do was swap spindles and no downtime. So there's my reassurance, never-mind the fact the spares need new bearings

The 4Runner is coming along nicely Tyler! Sucks about the rear tire carrier, I'm now glad I set mine up so high.

I really need to go for a ride with one of you guys with these "top shelf" coilovers. I was thinking LT, but after adding it all up I don't see it happening in the near future. I already have everything for a proper mid-travel set up front and rear, except the fancy shocks.

Thanks! No worries about the carrier, it will soon be different, and higher like yours.

Well hopefully you will get a chance soon. As of now I am planning on going to the Jambo and by then I should have a real mid travel. Truck will be seeing 2.0 (2.5 if I can fit them) outboarded rear King shocks and new links. I want to push the rear axle back a little but I'm not sure how much room I have with the driveshaft and panhard system.

Hey Tyler things are looking good. Are you using a wooden frame as a jig to put a slight arc in the rack? I'm pretty sure that's how WMW does them, I like it. Putting the tire up higher will obviously help. I think for some of us there may be times where just pulling the spare and tossing it in the roof rack for the obstacle may be a good idea too. When you outboard the rears are you planning on using the 8' stroke 4runner shocks or 10" LC/fj ones?

Yea I moved mine up one before I went and it was definitely not enough. If your curious I had the lowest hole on the tire piece matched up with the second to lowest hole on the carrier. I also had it shoved all the way in for max clearance. I wouldn't be too excited for the carrier, its likely to be something super simple as i lose my garage in just over a month and during that time I'll be starting an internship and moving in that time.

Funny you recognize the connection to WMW. It is a WMW rack. I worked with him on building this DIY kit and working on a jig that could be built easily in a garage and yet still give it his signature curve. I've debated sticking the tire up top. The hi-lift will be going up on the rack for sure but I'm hoping I can work something out to get the tire out of the way and possibly protected..

On the shocks I will be going with a 10" King eye to eye shock. I'll be running a shock hoop on the outside with a custom lower mount. I'll probably have them custom valved by Filthy Motorsports for my application. Still dont know if I should go with 2.0 or 2.5. I don't want to adjust my setup but 1" spacers would give me enough room to clear 2.5s I think. Need to go down and take some real measurements

Haha yea I think I got it sometime in November. You couldn't have paid me to go out into my 0 degree garage and weld it up though. So really I'm only like 2 months behind schedule :becky:

I know that you're starting your career, and that you've taken an internship (IIRC), and that you're commuting, and wearing your adult pants and all that, but remember....

You are responsible for keeping this build moving forward, and that is what is most important right now.
