Shopping around and looking for KDSS but have no need for Navigation package. Dealer says the two can not be separated. I swear I've read of people having one without the other. Don't know if it a year thing or just the bs " we can't get that combo in this region". Thanks for any insight. -loop

Not completely sure but anything pre 2014 the Entune was an option. 2014 and up, it now comes standard. Use that as your starting point but I only know about 2014 4Runner with KDSS.
It existed model year 2010 in Ventura, California.

I ordered my 2014 without NAV... It still comes with the screen and entunes, but the NAV bit will not be part of the package.
Thank you guys for the info, my dealer told me all KDSS are made with Navigation because people who want one always want the other. I asked him what suspension had to do with an electronic map :argue:

I think we're talking apples and oranges here. Loopsb you're linking NAV to suspension in that they have nothing to do with one another. Your dealer is talking about the practical point that buyers who want KDSS tend to load up their rig. In the end you're both right.
Yes you can order a vehicle with KDSS, and not NAV. However it's very unlikely any dealer would one made that way for stock. It would effectively become a white elephant and could easily be sitting on their lot in 2015 still waiting for a buyer. That is especially true for a small dealer and / or a dealer in a small market.
In your So Cal market what you want is going to be extremely hard to find...if it exists at all, because California buyers either buy loaded or stripped to build up. If you want to buy existing stock with KDSS but no NAV be willing to travel. I'd say Colorado is your best shot.

I bought my 2014 TE KDSS no NAV in Oregon because all the California dealers told me they didn't make it. Maybe you can order it in CA? I was price checking with the dealers by zip code and noticed in Oregon it could be had. I also tried Nevada and had no luck. Go on Toyota's web site to "build and price" it will ask for your zip, put in the zip for a region and it will let you configure it for that region. You may be too far for it to be worth the drive to Oregon to make up for that $500 NAV.

I have a 2013 trail that I special ordered with Nav and No KDSS. It was impossible to find on a lot in so California this way all had both.

Last year, I was searching for the same vehicle in the Gulf State Region. And this area did not have any. Then I searched the new car section of Cars.com. I found a couple there in New Jersey. It was going to cost me more to get a non-NAV. But in the end, I just got the NAV on my used 2012 and I am actually very glad I did. I swore I did not need NAV but actually do use it now. And I actually love the Bluetooth phone too.

I have a 2011 trail edition in magnetic grey that has KDSS and no nav. It is also for sale if you're interested. We need something just a little bigger for the family

The dealers are going to tell you all sorts of BS to keep you from buying elsewhere...
Here's a list of sales regions. Pick a zip code, plug it into Toyota.com's build function, and you'll see which options are available in which region. Your choice will be to travel to a region/dealer that has what you want, or to bite the bullet on NAV. Dealer swaps OUTSIDE their region are rare. A dealer IN your region may special order, but you'll have a significant delay, IF they'll even do it. Many members have bought outside their region successfully.

CO and NW got either, the rest of the country got the KDSS, Entune, and Nav version. I know, because I spent a month trying to get one without and the dealers weren't willing to do a trade out of SE Toyota's boundaries--and they eventually gave me one with all that crap for the cost of one without it.
They even installed a SE Toyota security system that sometimes causes weird electrical glitches at no extra charge!

The dealer lied to you, I have a 14 TE with Nav without KDSS. I had to order it because I wanted blue with nax and at the time there weren't any in the Carolinas. In the Southeast alot of TE don't have KDSS but have Nav.
