TE slide out tray - filler plate for extended bed

Hey everyone,

First post. Did a cursory search and didn't come up with this particular thing but I'll bet it's been covered:

Background: I have paid a deposit and negotiated a price with my dealer pending they can find me a silver or grey TE within a reasonable distance. I am geeked. Haven't even test driven a 4Runner in 4 months and the one I did drive was a SR5 so I am going into the TE a bit blind having not test driven it. I did get inside one before it was snatched up yesterday by someone else (damn my luck).

I really like the sliding tray (and hate 3rd row seating) because with it extended it is just long enough to sleep in at 6'0". Just need to get an SUV tent to enclose the back end.

Not to my question: has anyone fabricated a filler for the gap created when the tray is slid out to keep the floor flat? I know I can do it but plans/photos/ideas would be helpful.

BTW, I am moving out of a 2009 A4 Quattro. Bit of a change for me!

Sorry, I don't have any plans for this. Just wanted to say nice choice moving to the TE. I just recently traded my A4 in for a TE too. Love it.

Sorry, I don't have any plans for this. Just wanted to say nice choice moving to the TE. I just recently traded my A4 in for a TE too. Love it.

I came from an S5 to a TE and loving every second of it.

I was in an A3. Loved it but I'm happy to have something larger and way more reliable.

Yeah, I have the APR software on my A4 and running extra boost and broke the runner vane in the intake manifold at 34k miles...

Decided that it was time to give it up before I had to start paying for those types of problems when the warranty runs out at 36k. Also, avoid $800 in tires that are now due for replacement. Yeah, it wasn't hard for me to convince myself to finally get a TE.

Won't be passing people in the turning lane anymore though. Probably best for everyone that way.

Regarding a filler plate for the back when you remove the sliding tray, you have to improvise. I used half of a heavy duty rubber mat that was intended to protect the bed of a pickup. I have used it in previous 4Runners since 1991 to protect the back area where my GSD rides. I cut the larger piece in half, putting part in the back where the tray was and the other half under my GSD's area, between the front seat and cargo area. Had to remove the tray so I could get all our stuff in when traveling. I usually go hiking while we are on vacation, so I have hiking clothes, boots, day pack and misc. gear plus casual clothes for after hiking. My doggie has his bag and my wife one or two (she travels light).
