TE wheels on LE???

New to the forum. Been drooling at the lift thread for a week now. Sorry if already discussed.....I have a 2010 LE with 20x7 wheels. VERY limited options for offroad tires due to the narrow wheels. Simple solution to me is just to order the standard bullet hole wheels off of a trail edition (17x7.5) and then run 265/70/17 duratracs. This sounds like too simple and easy of a fix. Before I fire off an order....is anyone running this set up? Will this work????

That will work no problem. You can probably find someone willing to trade with you. I'd check the classifieds... the trail wheels are more rare than SR5, but they show up every now and then. A lot of people go with the Mojave ATX and there's a new look-a-like offered by Discount Tire's brand "MB"

TE wheels fit perfect and are for sale alot on here. They are a rip off to buy new from Toyota and you might as well buy the TRD ones if your going to spend that much.Where are you located, I'd guess Alabama, as it's a pain to ship wheels and local to you sales should be considered first.Here's some on here from bRunner and probably more on there so you'll have to look more .... http://www.toyota-4runner.org/sale-...-4-trail-edition-17-wheels-2010-te-tires.html

Also,Your LE wheels are highly desired by some so you can sell those .

Also ,what color is your 4Runner as the newer 2010 and up FJ wheels are almost exactly the same(same fit) but anodized a real light gray color. At least 3 sets for sale that I saw on the FJ forum .....here's one ..2012 FJ Wheels 17" for sale in NC. - Toyota FJ Cruiser Forum

Was thinking of ordering from allfactorywheel.com and then duratracs 265/70 from tirerack.com. Probably not the cheapest option, right? If it works....I'm all for keeping it simple.

Again....thanks for the fast response. So....am I not gonna get hazed at all????? :cool:
 
Sorry....my LE is black. Probably gonna keep the 20s/geolanders in case I ever decide to trade in. Also.....can I go larger than 265 without a lift??? May lift in the future, and feel like I'd be in a better place to do so with TE 17x7.5 wheels. For now gonna keep it stock. Saw another thread where someone was running 285 on stock suspension???? LE is my daily driver.....weekends try to access some remote fishing holes. Not trying to conquer the mountains here....just wanna get back in the woods where the fish are dumber. (roof mount yak racks will be next obsession)

Yes, you can fit 285/70-17 without a lift. It's fairly popular and many here have done it before lifting, including me.

1) Do the wheel well liner mod. This gives extra clearance in front of the wheel (for the next step).
2) Have your truck re-aligned with the caster set to +4.0, the rest to standard settings. This moves the wheel forward so it won't rub in back and is why you need to do the wheel well liner mod first.
3) Mount and enjoy your new wheels.

If you are lifting you may want to do that first and then go with 285/70/17. I did the Trail convert before putting on the bigger tires so my pics would help you much there. If you are are not lifting then 265 will do you fine.

But honestly, based on your stated driving needs even the stock 20" will work very well.

Edit - my local Goodyear dealer price matched the lowest online price I found (tirerack) plus added a rebate plus 6 months no interest so don't rule them out.

you may want to check out some of the FJ wheels as well, some FJ's have the same TE wheels, I just got a set on the local Craigslist... for my LE also..

Now....me being me....can't just say thanks and move on......I feel confident that I can order TE 17x7.5 wheels....I feel confident that I can run 265/70 duratracs.....I feel confident that with a small mod I can run 285/70 duratracs.......

So.... as a compromise....without making any mods.....there are less available options in a 275/70/17....but BFG ATs are available in that size.....seems as if I could run 275/70 BFG ATs on a TE 17x7.5 wheel WITHOUT making any mods and have a pretty rockin setup that would serve my needs.

Am I off base????
 
I have 4 TE wheels/tires (plus a spare wheel and tire) in Atlanta that I need to get rid of before moving in November...

personally 275s aren't enough of a difference from stock to justify the cost/slight mpg loss (size and weight) I would go 285 or stay stock
