Telescoping Steering Wheel

Well since I am looking at the 4Runner and do not want a Moon Roof because I am tall and need the extra space, can someone answer me a question.

The sales Brochure says the SR5's do not come with telescoping steering wheels, but the salesman was not sure and he would have to check it out.

Could someone tell me if their SR5 has a telescoping steering wheel or not? Or if someone with a Sport has one without a Moon Roof?

I would gladly get a Sport Model, but they only come with a Moon Roof.

Unless the dealer can install a telescoping steering wheel for me for an addition charge, I do not have a problem paying for that.

Also, anyone that has it or does not have it, do you use it or wish you got it? Pros/Cons?

Thanks in advance for all the help. :)

Maybe I am not understanding you correctly, but how is not having a moon roof will give you the extra space?

Also, I am 6,2 and I have the 03 Sport model with telescope and moon and I am very comfortable.

If you do not have a Moon Roof, you obtain an extra 2 inches of headroom and I do need it. I am 6'4".

I sat in a Limited 2 days ago and I just fit, but I had the seat lowered all the way and reclined back a little too much.

So the best way for me to go is one without a Moof Roof since I will gain those 2 extra inches. I have really long legs and torso, sucks kinda.

Just wondering if anyone found the telescoping steering wheel useful or not?

Or the owners who purchased a SR5 with they had one?

Useful? Sure. You can set it how far or close you like. But if you are testing a 4 Runner without, and you like the stearing wheel where it is, then there really isn't any need for one. I am willing to bet if you got one and set it some places, chances are you will never move it again. I only moved mine twice.

I agree wit Silver. I am 6'4", and I need all the room I can get. Those 2" are very valuable. I have not found telescoping steering wheel useful yet, but I have only played around with it for a few minutes.

Yeah, I guess I am asking for a odd model is seems.

So far I am not sure on the color.

I want a SR5 with a V6, Leather Steering Wheel/Audio Controls. A silver sifter knob/ or leather that comes on the Sport/Limited, no moon roof, and not sure if a telescoping steering wheel is worth the extra money or not.

It seems maybe I would have to order a 4Runner and I heard it can take up to 6 months to get. :(

The X-Reas suspesion looks awesome, but unfortunately you can not get a Sport without a Moof Roof.

Did you consider the Sequoia? That looks like it has tons of room.

Too much money I think and the gas mileage is not worth it. I drive around 30,000-35,000 miles a year.

4Runner w/ a 4.0 is good enough for me. :)

Just having a few luxury features I want is the hard thing.

I am open to a couple colors, but the main thing I want would be the Leather Steering Wheel with Audio Controls. The Shifter Knob could be ordered through parts and put on later.

Just want to make sure the manual seats also go down all the way like the power seats did in the Limited.

Another question, what does the interior trim look like in the SR5? I noticed the Limited had granite/silver trim. I assume the SR% just comes with the silver trim.

Best thing for me to do if find a SR5, but I have not been able to find one at 4-5 dealers.

You can get a 04 Sport without a Moon Roof. I know this for a fact because I have one.:D

Are you shitting me?

OHHHH BOYYYYYYYY....

Sport is the way to go then. I am going by what the damn www.toyota.com says and the building of one. I knew something seems off. Just hope i can get a V6 without a Moof Roof, since you have a V8.

:bouncy:

If you can send me the info on yours on what you have interior wise, then I can call the dealer.

Thanks DarkTiger. :)

Nope I am not shitting you. I have a 04 4runner Sport (love my non functional hood scoop :D :D ), V8. I did not get 4X4 because those were super hard to get in my area. No sunroof. It was a 900 dollar option that I could live without because of my height. Love my X-Reas suspesion. I did get Option Pack C, just because I wanted the Gentec mirror, and security upgrade. You can go to Toyota's website and build one(there you can see that moon roof is just an option on the sports edition).

That is where I went. I does not give me the option of getting a moonroof or not.

Here is what it gives me:

= Limited stock Start Over

Specifications

Option Combination #1 $1,140
- Daytime running lights
- Power tilt/slide moonroof
- Rear spoiler w/center high mounted stop lamp

~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-

That is the only choice and I just read my brochure and it says the Moon Roof is optional. Toyota needs to fix the site if that is the case.

I hope a 4wd is not hard to find for me, but I guess the dealer is willing to do a trade.

See what happens. I am looking for purchase in the next couple months, but want to make sure I check out all my options. 4Runner seems the best way to go.
:D

Thanks for the help.

Maybe you should just go to a few dealers and see if anyone can get what you want. That's what I would do. In fact, that is what I did. Turned out they had exactly what I wanted in the lot.

Just called the dealer and they did a search. Nothing in their region.

Looks like it would be a special order and would be up to 4 months to get.

The steering wheel in the SR5 does not telescope, only tilts. I guess it's just hit or miss with the sunroof option on the sport models. When we picked up our SR5, the only 4X4 sport they had on the lot didn't have a sunroof.

Must be a change in the 2004 models. Mine has telescoping steering wheel, although once it's set you don't use the feature again.

I'm pretty sure on the '04, it's not even an option. It's either standard on the Sport & Limited or not available (SR5).

Mine came with the telescopic feature. Not too useful, IMO. Just set it and forget it. I also wanted the leather wrapped steering wheel with audio controls, but none of the SR5's had it. Toyota has a weird way of including options available. Also, the SR5 has silver trim. Here's a pic of my interior:

the leather wheel with audio controls are found on the Sport not SR5.
If you are willing to wait then you can get what you want. I had to order my vehicle because they couldn't find any in the Northeast. They told me it takes at least 90 days for a factory order but if one pops up in your region that has not been ordered or sold already than it would be shipped to your dealer instead of somewhere else. They call it Preferencing the vehicle. That is what happened to me. The same vehicle that I wanted showed up on a boat and was going to be sent to a dealer somewhere as part of their alotment but since the dealer here already had a paying customer, it was shipped here and the other dealer got another 4Runner instead. I got my 4Runner yesterday. It only took about 5 weeks or so. Patience and a little shopping will pay off.
