tell me your avergae gas mileage- 4 x 4

If I drive with a gentle right foot my V8 4x4 gets 15 mpg in winter and 19 MPG in summer. This is actual MPG, not the 10-11% optimistic reading that's displayed on the stock MPG computer. Most of my driving is commuting to work at 75+ MPH on interstates. On a hot summer day with no wind I could probably get low 20's on a leasurely 55 MPH country road, but that never happens so I'm almost always sub 20 MPG.

Yep, regular unleaded. I should say no lower than 86 octane rating. In CO and some other states they have 85,87, and 90 I think. So in those states I use the mid-grade. Never tried premium in the tank. My elevation is 6500' at home and 6900' at work.

If you are at that elevation there is no reason why you shouldn't be putting 85 octane in your car.

Basically you are both throwing money away and hurting performance if you are putting in higher octane, so run 85 if your that high up in the mtns.

V6 SR5 4WD, getting about 18-18.5 in the city, hand-calculated. Truck is bone stock with Michelin tires. Computer lies and says 19.1 Haven't taken any trips long enough to calculate mileage on trips. Will change diff and transfer case fluids soon -- perhaps it will rise slightly. Using 87 octane, at close to sea level.

Mixed street/freeway driving I get around 18 and that's with flooring it sometimes.This past summer I managed as much as 22 just going easy. All on 91.
