First hotel I stay in off of 75 and my truck gets broken into. Steal my gps,iPod, viair air compressor.....other stuff. Felt like turning around and going back home. Was like "pure Michigan , pure ghetto thievery" whatever. I live in NYC my entire life and nothing remotely close ever like this happens to me. And I park my truck outside. But, in defense of the area above Monroe county ( where my truck was broken into ) this state is beautiful! Especially the west coast. I'd like to post pics of the window damage. But as usual in apples infinite wisdom. I can't. Gonna have to do it either when i get home or try using wifeys phone. I tell you, this scumbag who broke into my vehicle was careful, and a pro. Very little glass,well that was smart on my part cause I tinted over the dark glass and it kept most of the glass together. There was no damage to the outside of the vehicle. But the inside door panel was scuffed. Pretty pissed. Insurance better do the right thing......I'll try posting pics soon.

Damn man. I'm sorry to hear that. There's nothing worse then coming back to your vehicle and having it, for lack of a better word, violated. It really stinks that Toyota doesn't alarm the SR5's, just keyless entry. I, personally, never leave anything in the vehicle and those things that I must, I hide. Good luck with your insurance claim, and try to remain optimistic. It can happen to anyone, anywhere, regardless of where you are.

Well, the only saving grace from me going ape sh1t, was that there was NO exterior damage. Gonna have to be more apprehensive of leaving stuff in the truck.

I have so many opinions of that side of our state, but none of them are good. And like the old saying goes, "if you don't have anything nice to say....."
Next time through, spend more time on the west side. It's pretty much a night and day difference. I agree, it's beautiful. But, I'm biased.

I don't know the state too well. I actually visited some friends in washington. Near sterling heights, Shelby area. Night n day man. And I'm in frankfort right now. WOW. We're heading to mackinaw island in a couple of hours. So the views and the drive with the rented 2012 Volkswagen jetta are kinda making up for the issue .

Sounds like you need some dark tint! I have 5% all around, I have accidentally left an iPad on my seat and various other things and never had an issue. No reason to break in to steal something that you cannot see. Just doing the back windows would be fine then you aren't running around with illegal tint.

Sorry to hear that man...Some people just flat out suck! They don't work for their own stuff so they have to steal from the people who do work for their stuff
I had something similar happen to me only I had my truck for all of 1 week before someone smashed my window and took everything inside. The worst part was that it was sitting in my driveway (in a nice middle-class neighborhood) when it happened...They made out with about $500 worth of stuff including an Ipod, radar detector, and Oakley sunglasses. Unfortunately, the insurance company didn't help at all and I had to pay to replace everything, including the broken window, out of pocket. At the time I had a $200 deductable on my auto insurance, but when I called and explained what happened they said that they only cover damage to the actual vehicle which, in my case, was just the window and that only cost me $150 to replace. When I asked about all the stuff that was taken, they said that it is all covered under homeowners insurance since it was not "a permanent part of the vehicle". Unfortunately I had a $500 deductable on my homeowners insurance so I was simple SOL and had to replace everything out of pocket :redbrick:...The next day I went to Best Buy and bought a Viper alarm and I haven't had any issues since.

Sorry to hear about that. I'm so paranoid about break ins into my vehicles. I had multiple "break ins" into my soft top Wrangler when I lived out in Hawaii, it's hard to remember count. Um, thanks for slicing the window to get to my baseball caps but the door was unlocked >.< People are idiots.

I've left things in the back and no problems. I have a radar detector too and added a visor tint to hide it.

Funny thing, but my 2012 SR5 has "TOYOTA Auto Alarm" stickers on the side windows.

Found out my TE doesn't have the alarm eventhough it has the sticker a couple of months ago when my driver side window was busted.
To the OP, sorry to hear that. It does really suck! Glad to see you didn't let those thieves get the best of you and ruin your trip.
